We determine all (1,1)-knots which admit an essential meridional surface, namely, we give a construction which produces (1,1)-knots having essential meridional surfaces, and show that if a (1,1)-knot admits an essential meridional surface then it comes from the given construction.

We present two different representations of (1,1)-knots and study some connections between them. The first representation is algebraic: every (1,1)-knot is represented by an element of the pure mapping class group of the twice punctured torus. The second representation is parametric: every (1,1)-knot can be represented…

The paper extends spun knot concepts to virtual 1-knots and 2-knots, proving equivalence relations and new constructions.

problem Generalizing spun knots to virtual 1-knots and 2-knots and establishing equivalence relations.
method Developed a spinning construction for virtual 1-knots and 2-knots, using fiber-circles and isotopy.
result Proved new equivalence relations and found virtual 2-knots that are E\mathcal E-equivalent but not fiberwise equivalent.

We present a combinatorial method for a calculation of knot Floer homology with Z-coefficient of (1,1)-knots, and then demonstrate it for non-alternating (1,1)-knots with ten crossings and the pretzel knots of type (-2,m,n). Our calculations determine the unknotting numbers and 4-genera of the pretzel knots of this typ…

The aim of this paper is to investigate the relations between Seifert manifolds and (1,1)-knots. In particular, we prove that every orientable Seifert manifold with invariants {Oo,0|-1;(p,q),...,(p,q),(l, l-1)} has a cyclically presented fundamental group and, moreover, it is the n-fold strongly-cyclic covering of the …

In this paper we investigate the Alexander polynomial of (1,1)-knots, which are knots lying in a 3-manifold with genus one at most, admitting a particular decomposition. More precisely, we study the connections between the Alexander polynomial and a polynomial associated to a cyclic presentation of the fundamental grou…

We show that every nonzero integer occurs in the denominator of a boundary slope for infinitely many (1,1)-knots and that infinitely many (1,1)-knots have boundary slopes of arbitrarily small difference. Specifically, we prove that for any integers m, n > 1 with n odd the exterior of the Montesinos knot K(-1/2, m/(2m \…

The paper explores different types of knot unknotting numbers using various local moves.

method Examined ribbon-move and pass-move on 2-knots and 1-knots, and high-dimensional-pass-move on high-dimensional knots.
result Found examples and bounds for various unknotting numbers associated with different local moves.

We develop an algebraic representation for (1,1)-knots using the mapping class group of the twice punctured torus MCG(T,2). We prove that every (1,1)-knot in a lens space L(p,q) can be represented by the composition of an element of a certain rank two free subgroup of MCG(T,2) with a standard element only depending on …

Let M be S3S^3, S1×S2S^1\times S^2, or a lens space L(p,q), and let k be a (1,1)-knot in M, i.e., a knot which is of 1-bridge with respect to a Heegaard torus. We show that if there is a closed meridionally incompressible surface in the complement of k, then the surface and the knot can be put in a special position, namel…

We study the relationship between fibered ribbon 1-knots and fibered ribbon 2-knots by studying fibered slice disks with handlebody fibers. We give a characterization of fibered homotopy-ribbon disks and give analogues of the Stallings twist for fibered disks and 2-knots. As an application, we produce infinite families…

For a genus-1 1-bridge knot in the 3-sphere, that is, a (1,1)-knot, a middle tunnel is a tunnel that is not an upper or lower tunnel for some (1,1)-position. Most torus knots have a middle tunnel, and non-torus-knot examples were obtained by Goda, Hayashi, and Ishihara. In a previous paper, we generalized their constru…

We show that by performing the Gluck twist along the 2-knot Kpq2K^2_{pq} derived from two ribbon presentations of the ribbon 1-knot K(p,q)K(p,q) we get the standard 4-sphere S4S^4. In the proof we apply Kirby calculus.

In this paper we study the knot Floer homology of a subfamily of twisted (p,q)(p, q) torus knots where q±1q \equiv\pm1 (mod pp). Specifically, we classify the knots in this subfamily that admit L-space surgeries. To do calculations, we use the fact that these knots are (1,1)(1, 1) knots and, therefore, admit a genus one Heeg…

The paper proves a conjecture about satellite knots and their slice genus.

method Establishes the conjecture for a variant of the topological slice genus, the Z-slice genus.

We describe the genus two knots which admit a genus one, one bridge position. These are divided into several families, one consists of vertical bandings of two genus one (1,1)(1,1)-knots, other consists of vertical bandings of two cross cap number two 2-bridge knots, and the last one consists of genus two tunnel number on…
