48 results for virtual tangles

Virtual knot theory, introduced by Kauffman, is a generalization of classical knot theory of interest because its finite-type invariant theory is potentially a topological interpretation of Etingof and Kazhdan's theory of quantization of Lie bi-algebras. Classical knots inject into virtual knots, and flat virtual knots…

Study on coloring virtual tangles with integer and modular arithmetic.

problem Characterizing Fox colorings of virtual tangle diagrams.
method Analyzed classical and virtual tangle diagrams using vector representations and divisibility conditions.
result For R=ZR=\mathbb{Z}, realizability depends on divisibility of the alternating sum. For R=Z/pZR=\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z}, all vectors are realizable.

We generalize the Wriggle polynomial, first introduced by L. Folwaczny and L. Kauffman, to the case of virtual tangles. This generalization naturally arises when considering the self-crossings of the tangle. We prove that the generalization (and, by corollary, the original polynomial) are Vassiliev invariants of order …

We use Kauffman's bracket polynomial to define a complex-valued invariant of virtual rational tangles that generalizes the well-known fraction invariant for classical rational tangles. We provide a recursive formula for computing the invariant, and use it to compute several examples.

We extend the cobordism based categorification of the virtual Jones polynomial to virtual tangles. This extension is combinatorial and has semi-local properties. We use the semi-local property to prove an applications, i.e. we give a discussion of Lee's degeneration of virtual homology.

We define a category vTv\mathcal{T} of tangles diagrams drawn on surfaces with boundaries. On the one hand we show that there is a natural functor from the category of virtual tangles to vTv\mathcal{T} which induces an equivalence of categories. On the other hand, we show that vTv\mathcal{T} is universal among ribbon c…

We generalize the index polynomial invariant to the case of virtual tangles. Three polynomial invariants result from this generalization; we give a brief overview of their definition and some basic properties.

We consider an algebra of (classical or virtual) tangles over an ordered circuit operad and introduce Conway-type invariants of tangles which respect this algebraic structure. The resulting invariants contain both the coefficients of the Conway polynomial and the Milnor's mu-invariants of string links as partial cases.…

New obstructions for embedding one compact oriented 3-manifold in another are given. A theorem of D. Krebes concerning 4-tangles embedded in links arises as a special case. Algebraic and skein-theoretic generalizations for 2n-tangles provide invariants that persist in the corresponding invariants of links in which they…

New quantum models unify Alexander and generalized Alexander polynomials for AC links.

problem Defining and distinguishing AC links and virtual knots.
method Generalizing AC links to virtual tangles and using quantum supergroups.
result Generalized Alexander polynomials are distinct from Alexander polynomials for AC links.

We extend Milnor's mu-invariants of link homotopy to ordered (classical or virtual) tangles. Simple combinatorial formulas for mu-invariants are given in terms of counting trees in Gauss diagrams. Invariance under Reidemeister moves corresponds to axioms of Loday's diassociative algebra. The relation of tangles to dias…

The paper classifies virtual knot polynomials and trivalent graph invariants using skein theory.

result Classification of all non-trivial invariants of trivalent graphs and skein theories of virtual tangles.

We study generalizations of a classical link invariant -- the multivariable Alexander polynomial -- to tangles. The starting point is Archibald's tMVA invariant for virtual tangles which lives in the setting of circuit algebras, and whose target space has dimension that is exponential in the number of strands. Using th…

For any virtual link L=STL = S \cup T that may be decomposed into a pair of oriented nn-tangles SS and TT, an oriented local move of type TTT \mapsto T' is a replacement of TT with the nn-tangle TT' in a way that preserves the orientation of LL. Ribbon tangles are proper embeddings of tori and cylinders in the 44-ball~B4B^4, "bounding" 33-manifolds with only ribbon disks as singularities. An enhanced trivalent tangle is a trivalent tangle with some of its edges labeled. This article addresses persistent tangles. These are tangles whose presence in a knot diagram forces that diagram to be knotted. We provide new methods for constructing persistent tangles.
