We present a new invariant, called slope, of a colored link in an integral homology sphere and use this invariant to complete the signature formula for the splice of two links. We develop a number of ways of computing the slope and a few vanishing results. Besides, we discuss the concordance invariance of the slope and…
Study knot invariants to deduce Hopf invariant and propose a slope conjecture.
Paper studies invariants of knots using logarithmic Gauss maps and character varieties.
The paper introduces Slope Conjecture which relates the degree of the Jones polynomial of a knot and its parallels with the slopes of incompressible surfaces in the knot complement. More precisely, we introduce two knot invariants, the Jones slopes (a finite set of rational numbers) and the Jones period (a natural numb…
A knot in the 3-sphere in genus-1 1-bridge position (called a (1,1)-position) can be described by an element of the braid group of two points in the torus. Our main results tell how to translate between a braid group element and the sequence of slope invariants of the upper and lower tunnels of the (1,1)-position. Afte…
We derive an explicit formula for the asymptotic slope of the Aubin-Yau functional along a Bergman geodesic on a surface of complex dimension 2, extending the work of Phong-Sturm on Riemann surfaces. This is equivalent to an explicit calculation of the Donaldson-Futaki invariant of a test configuration. The slope is gi…
The Slope Conjecture relates a quantum knot invariant, (the degree of the colored Jones polynomial of a knot) with a classical one (boundary slopes of incompressible surfaces in the knot complement). The degree of the colored Jones polynomial can be computed by a suitable (almost tight) state sum and the solution of a …
Paper defines new stability and metrics for complex spaces.
We give a formula of the Donaldson-Futaki invariants for certain type of semi test configurations, which essentially generalizes Ross-Thomas' slope theory. The positivity (resp. non-negativity) of those "a priori special" Donaldson-Futaki invariants implies K-stability (resp. K-semistability). We show its applicability…
Let K be a tame knot with irreducible exterior M(K) in a closed, connected, orientable 3--manifold Sigma such that pi_1(Sigma) is cyclic. If infinity is not a strict boundary slope, then the diameter of the set of strict boundary slopes of K, denoted d_K, is a numerical invariant of K. We show that either (i) d_K >= 2 …
For a genus-1 1-bridge knot in the 3-sphere, that is, a (1,1)-knot, a middle tunnel is a tunnel that is not an upper or lower tunnel for some (1,1)-position. Most torus knots have a middle tunnel, and non-torus-knot examples were obtained by Goda, Hayashi, and Ishihara. In a previous paper, we generalized their constru…

New invariant measures knot geometry, improving volume-volume inequality.
We define the slope of a colored link in an integral homology sphere, associated to admissible characters on the link group. Away from a certain singular locus, the slope is a rational function which can be regarded as a multivariate generalization of the Kojima--Yamasaki -function. It is the ratio of two Conway pot…
We study the asymptotic behavior of quantized Ding functionals along Bergman geodesic rays and prove that the slope at infinity can be expressed in terms of Donaldson-Futaki invariants and Chow weights. Based on the slope formula, we introduce a new algebro-geometric stability on Fano manifolds and show that the existe…
New algorithms compute crosscap numbers of knots and 3-manifolds.
A topological invariant of the geodesic laminations on a modular surface is constructed. The invariant has a continuous part (the tail of a continued fraction) and a combinatorial part (the singularity data). It is shown, that the invariant is complete, i.e. the geodesic lamination can be recovered from the invariant. …
We generalize their construction and calculate th…
We use the LMO invariant to find constraints for a knot to admit a purely or reflectively cosmetic surgery. We also get a constraint for knots to admit a Lens space surgery, and some information for characterizing slopes.
We propose a new algorithm for Dehn surgery problem, finding exceptional Dehn filling slopes for a given hyperbolic 3-manifold with a torus boundary, using a quantum invariant called "3D index". The invariant is defined using an ideal triangulation of the cusped 3-manifold. We test the algorithm for many examples.
In this paper, we consider generalizations of the Alexander polynomial and signature of 2-bridge knots by considering the Gordon-Litherland bilinear forms associated to essential state surfaces of the 2-bridge knots. We show that the resulting invariants are well-defined and explore properties of these invariants. Fina…
The paper solves the dHYM equation on rational homogeneous varieties using Lie theory.
Study cosmetic surgeries on knots in homology spheres using Casson-Walker invariant.
An oriented three-manifold with torus boundary admits either no L-space Dehn filling, a unique L-space filling, or an interval of L-space fillings. In the latter case, which we call "Floer simple," we construct an invariant which computes the interval of L-space filling slopes from the Turaev torsion and a given slope …
Solves a long-standing problem in Kähler geometry.
The slope conjecture proposed by Garoufalidis asserts that the Jones slopes given by the sequence of degrees of the colored Jones polynomials are boundary slopes. We verify the slope conjecture for graph knots, i.e. knots whose Gromov volume vanish.
Study slopes in 3-manifolds, proving conjectures about knots.
We study chirally cosmetic surgeries, that is, a pair of Dehn surgeries on a knot producing homeomorphic 3-manifolds with opposite orientations. Several constraints on knots and surgery slopes to admit such surgeries are given. Our main ingredients are the original and the version of Casson invariant…
Using the Hatcher-Oertel algorithm for finding boundary slopes of Montesinos knots, we prove the Slope Conjecture and the Strong Slope Conjecture for a family of 3-tangle pretzel knots. More precisely, we prove that the maximal degrees of the colored Jones polynomial of such knots determine a boundary slope as predicte…

The Slope Conjecture proposed by Garoufalidis asserts that the degree of the colored Jones polynomial determines a boundary slope, and its refinement, the Strong Slope Conjecture proposed by Kalfagianni and Tran asserts that the linear term in the degree determines the topology of an essential surface that satisfies th…

2-level SLOPE improves high-dimensional inference with fewer hyperparameters.
Concerning the set of exceptional surgery slopes for a hyperbolic knot, Lackenby and Meyerhoff proved that the maximal cardinality is 10 and the maximal diameter is 8. Their proof is computer-aided in part, and both bounds are achieved simultaneously. In this note, it is observed that the diameter bound 8 implies the m…
A slope is a characterising slope for a knot in if the oriented homeomorphism type of -surgery on determines uniquely. We show that when is a hyperbolic knot its set of characterising slopes contains all but finitely many slopes with . We prove stronger results for hyper…
New research shows that many slopes are characterizing for satellite knots.
The Slope Conjecture relates the degree of the colored Jones polynomial to the boundary slopes of a knot. We verify the Slope Conjecture and the Strong Slope Conjecture for Montesinos knots with odd, even and , .

New quantum obstructions prevent purely cosmetic surgeries on knots.
A non-trivial slope on a knot in is called a characterizing slope if whenever the result of -surgery on a knot is orientation preservingly homeomorphic to the result of -surgery on , then is isotopic to . Ni and Zhang ask: for any hyperbolic knot , is a slope with $|p| +…

Let X be a norm curve in the SL(2,C)-character variety of a knot exterior M. Let t = || b || / || a || be the ratio of the Culler-Shalen norms of two distinct non-zero classes a, b in H_1(\partial M, Z). We demonstrate that either X has exactly two associated strict boundary slopes \pm t, or else there are strict bound…
The (Strong) Slope Conjecture relates the degree of the colored Jones polynomial of a knot to certain essential surfaces in the knot complement. We verify the Slope Conjecture and the Strong Slope Conjecture for 3-string Montesinos knots satisfying certain conditions.
Let r_m and r_M be the least and greatest finite boundary slopes of a hyperbolic knot K in S^3. We show that any cyclic surgery slopes of K must lie in the interval (r_m - 1/2, r_M + 1/2).
