We introduce a new integrable system hierarchy which is a restriction of the AKNS nxn hierarchy coming from an unusual splitting of the loop algebra. This splitting comes from an automorphism of the loop algebra instead of an automorphism of SL(n,C). It is known that the 2x2 KdV is the standard KdV hierarchy.

The paper constructs Darboux transforms for a specific hierarchy and its related flows.
In this paper, by putting a separating incompressible surface in a 3-manifold into Morse position relative to the height function associated to a strongly irreducible Heegaard splitting, we show that an incompressible subsurface of the Heegaard splitting can be found, by decomposing the 3-manifold along the separating …
There is a general method for constructing a soliton hierarchy from a splitting of a loop group as a positive and a negative sub-groups together with a commuting linearly independent sequence in the positive Lie subalgebra. Many known soliton hierarchies can be constructed this way. The formal inverse scattering associ…
This is the third in a series of papers attempting to describe a uniform geometric framework in which many integrable systems can be placed. A soliton hierarchy can be constructed from a splitting of an infinite dimensional group as positive and negative subgroups L_+, L_- and a commuting sequence in the Lie algebr…
We show that if is a fibered, orientable 3-manifold, and if has 1-relator presentation, then the presentation is induced by a Heegaard splitting of . A corollary is that, for these manifolds, the rank of is equal to the "restricted" Heegaard genus of . We also explore the analogy between 1-rel…

We give a survey of the following six closely related topics: (i) a general method for constructing a soliton hierarchy from a splitting of a loop algebra into positive and negative subalgebras, together with a sequence of commuting positive elements, (ii) a method---based on (i)---for constructing soliton hierarchies …
The study explores large group actions on 3-manifolds and their Heegaard splittings.
We investigate bi-Hamiltonian structures and mKdV hierarchies of solitonic equations generated by (semi) Riemannian metrics and curve flows of non-stretching curves. There are applied methods of the geometry of nonholonomic manifolds enabled with metric-induced nonlinear connection (N-connection) structure. On spacetim…
We prove a global Birkhoff decomposition for almost split real forms of loop groups, when an underlying finite dimensional Lie group is compact. Among applications, this shows that the dressing action - by the whole subgroup of loops which extend holomorphically to the exterior disc - on the -hierarchy of the ZS-AKN…

Logarithmic separation profile in hyperbolic groups shows hierarchical structure.
In this paper, we give an algorithm to build all compact orientable atoroidal Haken 3-manifolds with tori boundary or closed orientable Haken 3-manifolds, so that in both cases, there are embedded closed orientable separating incompressible surfaces which are not tori. Next, such incompressible surfaces are related to …
End-to-end deep model for coherent probabilistic forecasts in hierarchical time series.
Two metrics and are geodesically equivalent, if they share the same (unparameterized) geodesics. We introduce two constructions that allow one to reduce many natural problems related to geodesically equivalent metrics, such as the classification of local normal forms and the Lie problem (the description o…
Any Haken 3--manifold (possibly with boundary consisting of tori) can be transformed into a by a series of splitting and regluing along incompressible surfaces. This fact was proved by Gabai as an application of his sutured manifold theory. The first half of this paper provides a few techni…
We define essential and strongly essential triangulations of 3-manifolds, and give four constructions using different tools (Heegaard splittings, hierarchies of Haken 3-manifolds, Epstein-Penner decompositions, and cut loci of Riemannian manifolds) to obtain triangulations with these properties under various hypotheses…

A relation between the Goldstein-Petrich hierarchy for plane curves and the Toda lattice hierarchy is investigated. A representation formula for plane curves is given in terms of a special class of -functions of the Toda lattice hierarchy. A representation formula for discretized plane curves is also discussed.

New integrable deformations for topological hierarchies from Frobenius manifolds.
We introduce two families of soliton hierarchies: the twisted hierarchies associated to symmetric spaces. The Lax pairs of these two hierarchies are Laurent polynomials in the spectral variable. We compute the central invariants of the bihamiltonian structures of the constrained KP hierarchies, and show that these integrable hierarchies are topological deformations of their hydrodynamic limits.
We prove that the extended Toda hierarchy of \cite{CDZ} admits nonabelian Lie algebra of infinitesimal symmetries isomorphic to the half of the Virasoro algebra. The generators , of the Lie algebra act by linear differential operators onto the tau function of the hierarchy. We also prove that the tau fu…
