We study the ergodic properties of compositions of interval exchange transformations and rotations. We show that for any interval exchange transformation T, there is a full measure set of αin [0, 1) so that T composed with R_α is uniquely ergodic, where R_α is rotation by α.

The study proves conditions for hyperbolic isometries on fine curve graphs of higher genus surfaces.
This paper presents quantitative shrinking target results for rotations and interval exchange transformations. To do this a quantitative version of a unique ergodicity criterion of Boshernitzan is established.
Let be a smooth flow with positive speed and positive topological entropy on a compact smooth three dimensional manifold, and let be an ergodic measure of maximal entropy. We show that either is Bernoulli, or is isomorphic to the product of a Bernoulli flow and a rotational flow. Appli…
In [Mas82] and [Vee78] it was proved independently that almost every interval exchange transformation is uniquely ergodic. The Birkhoff ergodic theorem implies that these maps mainly have uniformly distributed orbits. This raises the question under which conditions the orbits yield low-discrepancy sequences. The case o…
Let be the space of isometry classes of ordered sextuples of points in the hyperbolic plane such that the product of the six corresponding rotations of angle is the identity. This space is closely related to the PSL-character variety of the genus 2 surface . In this article we study the t…
We consider cocycles of isometries on spaces of nonpositive curvature . We show that the supremum of the drift over all invariant ergodic probability measures equals the infimum of the displacements of continuous sections under the cocycle dynamics. In particular, if a cocycle has uniform sublinear drift, then there…
We describe a method for constructing Teichmüller geodesics where the vertical measured foliation is minimal but is not uniquely ergodic and where we have a good understanding of the behavior of the Teichmüller geodesic. The construction depends on various parameters, and we show that one can adjust the parameters …

The paper defines and analyzes homotopic rotation sets for surfaces of higher genus.
We show that for a closed surface of genus at least 5, or a surface of genus at least 2 with at least one marked point, the set of uniquely ergodic foliations and the set of cobounded foliations is path-connected and locally path-connected.
We relate ergodic-theoretic properties of a very small tree or lamination to the behavior of folding and unfolding paths in Outer space that approximate it, and we obtain a criterion for unique ergodicity in both cases. Our main result is that non-unique ergodicity gives rise to a transverse decomposition of the foldin…
We use Series' Markovian coding for words in Fuchsian groups and the Bowen-Series coding of limit sets to prove an ergodic theorem for Cesaro averages of spherical averages in a Fuchsian group.
The goal of this article is to draw new applications of small scale quantum ergodicity in nodal sets of eigenfunctions. We show that if quantum ergodicity holds on balls of shrinking radius , then one can achieve improvements on the recent upper bounds of Logunov and Logunov-Malinnikova on the size of nodal…
In this paper we prove that the limit set of any Weil-Petersson geodesic ray with uniquely ergodic ending lamination is a single point in the Thurston compactification of Teichmüller space. On the other hand, we construct examples of Weil-Petersson geodesics with minimal nonuniquely ergodic ending laminations and limit…
In this note we prove the a pointwise ergodic theorem for functions taking values in a separable complete CAT(0)-space, analogous to Lindenstrauss' pointwise ergodic theorem for real-valued integrable functions on a probability space subject to a probability-preserving action of an amenable l.c.s.c. group, where in the…

In this article, we study the ergodicity of the geodesic flows on surfaces with no focal points. Let be a smooth connected and closed surface equipped with a Riemannian metric , whose genus . Suppose that has no focal points. We prove that the geodesic flow on the unit tan…

We consider the limit set in Thurston's compactification PMF of Teichmueller space of some Teichmueller geodesics defined by quadratic differentials with minimal but not uniquely ergodic vertical foliations. We show that a) there are quadratic differentials so that the limit set of the geodesic is a unique point, b) th…

In this note we show that the Riemann moduli spaces equipped with the Weil--Petersson metric are quantum ergodic for . We also provide other examples of singular spaces with ergodic geodesic flow for which quantum ergodicity holds.
We extend to orbifolds classical results on quantum ergodicity due to Shnirelman, Colin de Verdière and Zelditch, proving that, for any positive, first-order self-adjoint elliptic pseudodifferential operator P on a compact orbifold X with positive principal symbol p, ergodicity of the Hamiltonian flow of p implies quan…
Strong stability of ergodic iterations proven without ergodic driving sequence.
This paper proposes a set of rules to revise various neural networks for 3D point cloud processing to rotation-equivariant quaternion neural networks (REQNNs). We find that when a neural network uses quaternion features under certain conditions, the network feature naturally has the rotation-equivariance property. Rota…

We study online prediction of bounded stationary ergodic processes. To do so, we consider the setting of prediction of individual sequences and build a deterministic regression tree that performs asymptotically as well as the best L-Lipschitz constant predictors. Then, we show why the obtained regret bound entails the …

Given a sequence of curves on a surface, we provide conditions which ensure that (1) the sequence is an infinite quasi-geodesic in the curve complex, (2) the limit in the Gromov boundary is represented by a nonuniquely ergodic ending lamination, and (3) the sequence divides into a finite set of subsequences, each of wh…
In this paper, we revisit the convergence of the Heavy-ball method, and present improved convergence complexity results in the convex setting. We provide the first non-ergodic O(1/k) rate result of the Heavy-ball algorithm with constant step size for coercive objective functions. For objective functions satisfying a re…
'Ergodicity economics' is criticized as pseudoscience.
We construct an example of a uniquely ergodic measured foliation on a surface such that the associated translation flow on the orientation double cover is minimal but not uniquely ergodic. We then prove a geometric criterion for the horizontal foliation of a quadratic differential to be uniquely ergodic. The second the…

We show that Masur's logarithmic law of geodesics in the moduli space of translation surfaces does not imply unique ergodicity of the translation flow, but that a similar law involving the flat systole of a Teichmüller geodesic does imply unique ergodicity. It shows that the flat geometry has a better control on ergodi…

A smooth diffeomorphism is said to be distributionally uniquely ergodic (DUE for short) when it is uniquely ergodic and its unique invariant probability measure is the only invariant distribution (up to multiplication by a constant). Ergodic translations on tori are classical examples of DUE diffeomorphisms. In this ar…
