The paper proves the existence of at least 4 embedded minimal tori in a three-sphere with positive Ricci curvature.

problem Proving the existence of embedded minimal tori in three-spheres with positive Ricci curvature.
method The proof relies on a multiplicity one theorem for the Simon-Smith min-max theory.
result There exist at least 4 distinct embedded minimal tori in the three-sphere with positive Ricci curvature.

Embeds skein algebras into quantum tori using Dehn-Thurston coordinates.

problem Studying representations of Kauffman bracket skein algebras at roots of unity.

result Explicit reconstruction of unique representation with fixed classical shadow.

In this paper, we show that an embedded Weingarten surface in S^3 of genus 1 must be rotationally symmetric, provided that certain structure conditions are satisfied. The argument involves an adaptation of our proof of Lawson's Conjecture for minimal tori.

Study circle patterns on tori, linking symplectic forms and homeomorphisms.

problem Understanding circle patterns on tori and their symplectic properties.
method Investigates the space of circle patterns on closed tori with complex projective structures, embedding it into Teichmüller spaces and analyzing symplectic forms.
result Non-degeneracy of the pulled-back Weil-Petersson symplectic form and homeomorphism between circle patterns and Teichmüller spaces.

We investigate the operation of torus surgery on tori embedded in S4S^4. Key questions include which 4-manifolds can be obtained in this way, and the uniqueness of such descriptions. As an application we construct embeddings of 3-manifolds into 4-manifolds by viewing Dehn surgery as a cross section of a surgery on a su…

A peculiarity of the geometry of the euclidean 3-sphere §3\S3 is that it allows for the existence of compact without boundary minimally immersed surfaces. Despite a wealthy of examples of such surfaces, the only known tori minimally embedded in §3\S3 are the ones congruent to the Clifford torus. In 1970 Lawson conjectu…

In this paper we exhibit infinite families of embedded tori in 4-manifolds that are topologically isotopic but smoothly distinct. The interesting thing about these tori is that they are topologically trivial in the sense that each bounds a topologically embedded solid handlebody. This implies that there are stably ribb…

Study geometric properties of Lagrangian self-shrinking tori and apply to mean curvature flow.

problem Geometric properties of Lagrangian self-shrinking tori in R4\mathbb R^4.
method Derive Łojasiewicz-Simon type gradient inequality, use compactness theorem, construct piecewise mean curvature flow.
result Entropy values for Lagrangian self-shrinking tori are finite, and compactness of tori is shown.

We present a method for finding embedded nullhomologous tori in standard 4-manifolds which can be utilized to change their smooth structure. As an application, we show how to obtain infinite families of simply connected smooth 4-manifolds with b^+ = 1 and b^- = 2,...,7, via surgery on nullhomologous tori embedded in th…

In this paper we introduce a representation of a embedded knotted (sometimes Lagrangian) tori in $\BR^4$ called a hypercube diagram, i.e., a 4-dimensional cube diagram. We prove the existence of hypercube homology that is invariant under 4-dimensional cube diagram moves, a homology that is based on knot Floer homology.…

This paper is on the classical Knotting Problem: for a given manifold N and a number m describe the set of isotopy classes of embeddings NSmN\to S^m. We study the specific case of knotted tori, i. e. the embeddings Sp×SqSmS^p \times S^q \to S^m. The classification of knotted tori up to isotopy in the metastable dimension ran…

For each member of an infinite family of homology classes in the K3-surface E(2), we construct infinitely many non-isotopic symplectic tori representing this homology class. This family has an infinite subset of primitive classes. We also explain how these tori can be non-isotopically embedded as homologous symplectic …

Embeddings of mapping tori for end-periodic graph maps are proven.

problem Embedding mapping tori of end-periodic graph maps into finite complexes.
method Flowline-preserving homotopy equivalence and π1π_1-injective map.
result Every mapping class of Γ arising from an end-periodic homotopy equivalence contains a representative whose mapping torus realizes such an embedding.

Let E(1)_p denote the rational elliptic surface with a single multiple fiber f_p of multiplicity p. We construct an infinite family of homologous non-isotopic symplectic tori representing the primitive class [f_p] in E(1)_p when p>1. As a consequence, we get infinitely many non-isotopic symplectic tori in the fiber cla…

Study shows certain 4D hyperbolic links don't contain geodesic 3-manifolds.

problem Proving certain hyperbolic link complements don't contain geodesic 3-manifolds.
method Analyzing hyperbolic link complements of 2-tori in S^4.
result Proves certain hyperbolic link complements do not contain closed embedded totally geodesic hyperbolic 3-manifolds.

We determine the non-null homologous knots in lens spaces whose exteriors contain properly embedded once-punctured tori. All such knots arise as surgeries on the Whitehead link and are grid number 1 in their lens spaces. As a corollary, we classify once-punctured torus bundles that admit a lens space filling.

In this paper we show how to combinatorically compute the rotation class of a large family of embedded Legendrian tori in R5\mathbb{R}^5 with the standard contact form. In particular, we give a formula to compute the Maslov index for any loop on the torus and compute the Maslov number of the Legendrian torus. These for…

We define an simple invariant of an embedded nullhomologous Lagrangian torus and use this invariant to show that many symplectic 4-manifolds have infinitely many pairwise symplectically inequivalent nullhomologous Lagrangian tori. We further show that for a large class of examples that lambda(T) is actually a C-infinit…

We use surgery along 2-tori embedded in a union of two copies of a product of punctured 2-tori to produce a new collection of homotopy 4-spheres (4-manifolds homotopy equivalent to S4S^4 and hence homeomorphic to S4S^4 but possibly not diffeomorphic to S4S^4). It is still unknown if these new examples are in fact exoti…
