14 results for associahedron

Diagonal complexes generalize associahedra to surfaces, providing models for ribbon graphs and tautological bundles.

problem Generalizing associahedra to surfaces with marked points.
method Defining cell complexes and their barycentric subdivisions on surfaces, proving homotopy equivalences and contraction properties.
result Homotopy equivalence of diagonal complexes to ribbon graph spaces and tautological bundles.

We realize Stasheff's multiplihedron geometrically as the moduli space of stable quilted disks. This generalizes the geometric realization of the associahedron as the moduli space of stable disks. We show that this moduli space is the non-negative real part of a complex moduli space of stable scaled marked curves.

This is an investigation of the role of shuffling and concatenating in the theory of graph drawing. A simple syntactic description of these and related operations is proved complete in the context of finite partial orders, as general as possible. An explanation based on that is given for a previously investigated colla…

Cyclohedra are a well-known infinite familiy of finite-dimensional polytopes that can be constructed from centrally symmetric triangulations of even-sided polygons. In this article we introduce an infinite-dimensional analogue and prove that the group of symmetries of our construction is a semidirect product of a degre…

New method tests causal relationships from data without needing to learn the entire graph.

problem Testing if a causal graph belongs to a specific Markov equivalence class from observational data.
method Established bounds on the number of independence tests required and provided an algorithm that matches these bounds.
result Testing requires exponentially less independence tests compared to learning, especially in graphs with high in-degrees and small clique sizes.

Integrable Killing tensors are used to classify orthogonal coordinates in which the classical Hamilton-Jacobi equation can be solved by a separation of variables. We completely solve the Nijenhuis integrability conditions for Killing tensors on the sphere S3S^3 and give a set of isometry invariants for the integrabilit…

Many examples of nonpositively curved closed manifolds arise as blow-ups of projective hyperplane arrangements. If the hyperplane arrangement is associated to a finite reflection group W, and the blow-up locus is W-invariant, then the resulting manifold M will admit a cell decomposition whose maximal cells are all comb…

Let Mg,1{\mathbb M}_{g, 1}, g1g \geq 1, be the moduli space of triples (C,P0,v)(C, P_0, v) of genus gg, where CC is a compact Riemann surface of genus gg, P0CP_0 \in C, and vTP0C{0}v \in T_{P_0}C\setminus\{0\}. Using Chen's iterated integrals we introduce a higher analogue of the period matrix for a triple (C,P0,v)(C, P_0, v), {\it the …

Study of SU(N)SU(N)-instanton Floer homology and its behavior under Dehn surgery.

problem Behavior of SU(N)SU(N)-instanton Floer homology under Dehn surgery.
method Construction of surgery exact triangles and tetragons/pentagons for SU(3)SU(3) and SU(4)SU(4) instanton Floer homologies, construction of asymptotically cylindrical metrics on ALE spaces.
result SU(N)-instanton Floer homology admits a surgery exact (N+1)(N+1)-gon.
