We prove that any strongly regular Weingarten surface in Euclidean space carries locally geometric principal parameters. In this paper we develop an abstract theory for the Codazzi equation on surfaces, and use it as an analytic tool to derive new global results for surfaces in the space forms ${\bb R}^3$, ${\bb S}^3$ and ${\bb H}^3$. We give essentially sharp generalizations of some classical theorems of surface theory that mainly depen…

In this paper we classify Weingarten surfaces integrable in the sense of soliton theory. The criterion is that the associated Gauss equation possesses an sl(2)-valued zero curvature representation with a nonremovable parameter. Under certain restrictions on the jet order, the answer is given by a third order ordinary d…

We define discrete flat surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space from the perspective of discrete integrable systems and prove properties that justify the definition. We show how these surfaces correspond to previously defined discrete constant mean curvature 1 surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space, and we also describe discrete focal …
New method classifies HCMU surfaces in 3D space forms as Weingarten surfaces.
We present the first steps of a procedure which discretises surface theory in classical projective differential geometry in such a manner that underlying integrable structure is preserved. We propose a canonical frame in terms of which the associated projective Gauss-Weingarten and Gauss-Mainardi-Codazzi equations adop…
We prove that the natural principal parameters on a given Weingarten surface are also natural principal parameters for the parallel surfaces of the given one. As a consequence of this result we obtain that the natural PDE of any Weingarten surface is the natural PDE of its parallel surfaces. We show that the linear fra…

In this paper we review some author's results about Weingarten surfaces in Euclidean space $\r^3$ and hyperbolic space $\h^3$. In this work, we consider 2-surfaces in arising from the modified Korteweg de Vries (mKdV) equation. We give a method for constructing the position vector of the mKdV surface explicitly for a given solution of the mKdV equation. mKdV surfaces contain Willmore-like and Weingarten surfaces. We show that s…

We demonstrate that every non-tubular channel linear Weingarten surface in Euclidean space is a surface of revolution, hence parallel to a catenoid or a rotational surface of non-zero constant Gauss curvature. We provide explicit parametrizations and deduce existence of complete hyperbolic linear Weingarten surfaces.
We briefly recall a fundamental exterior differential system introduced by the author and then apply it to the case of three dimensions.
