In 1984, Anatole Katok conjectured that the only closed orientable manifolds that support cohomology-free vector fields are tori and these vector fields are smoothly conjugated to Diophantine (constant) ones. In this work we present a proof of Katok conjecture for 3-manifolds.

New stability estimate for metric rigidity in hyperbolic dynamics.
We show that if a Finsler metric on with reversibility has flag curvatures satisfying , then closed geodesics with specific contact-topological properties cannot exist, in particular there are no closed geodesics with precisely one transverse self-intersection point. This is a…
Inspired by Katok's examples of Finsler metrics with a small number of closed geodesics, we present two results on Reeb flows with finitely many periodic orbits. The first result is concerned with a contact-geometric description of magnetic flows on the 2-sphere found recently by Benedetti. We give a simple interpretat…
Proves finite measure implies product structure for certain discrete subgroups.
Let , is a finite group which acts freely and isometrically on the -sphere and therefore is diffeomorphic to a compact space form. In this paper, we first investigate Katok's famous example about irreversible Finsler metrics on the spheres to study the topological structure of the contrac…
We give a new definition of a Laplace operator for Finsler metric as an average with regard to an angle measure of the second directional derivatives. This definition uses a dynamical approach due to Foulon that does not require the use of connections nor local coordinates. We show using 1-parameter families of Katok--…
In this paper, we prove there are at least two closed geodesics on any compact bumpy Finsler -manifold with finite fundamental group and . Thus generically there are at least two closed geodesics on compact Finsler manifolds with finite fundamental group. Furthermore, there are at least two closed geodesics …
The Guillemin-Uribe trace formula is a semiclassical version of the Selberg trace formula and more general Duistermaat-Guillemin formula for elliptic operators on compact manifolds, which reflects the dynamics of magnetic geodesic flows in terms of eigenvalues of a natural differential operator (the magnetic Laplacian)…
We find an upper bound for the entropy of a systolically extremal surface, in terms of its systole. We combine the upper bound with A. Katok's lower bound in terms of the volume, to obtain a simpler alternative proof of M. Gromov's asymptotic estimate for the optimal systolic ratio of surfaces of large genus. Furthermo…

Proves existence of elliptic Reeb orbit on real projective 3-space using ECH.
We study non-reversible Finsler metrics with constant flag curvature 1 on S^2 and show that the geodesic flow of every such metric is conjugate to that of one of Katok's examples, which form a 1-parameter family. In particular, the length of the shortest closed geodesic is a complete invariant of the geodesic flow. We …
This is a survey paper on Morse theory and the existence problem for closed geodesics. The free loop space plays a central role, since closed geodesics are critical points of the energy functional. As such, they can be analyzed through variational methods. The topics that we discuss include: Riemannian background, the …
We consider the geodesic flow of reversible Finsler metrics on the 2-sphere and the 2-torus, whose geodesic flow has vanishing topological entropy. Following a construction of A. Katok, we discuss examples of Finsler metrics on both surfaces, which have large ergodic components for the geodesic flow in the unit tangent…
We introduce a new critical value for Tonelli Lagrangians on the tangent bundle of the 2-sphere without minimizing measures supported on a point. We show that is strictly larger than the Mañé critical value , and on every energy level there exist infinitely…
In this paper, we prove that for every irreversible Finsler -dimensional real projective space with reversibility and flag curvature satisfying with , there exist at least non-contractible closed geodesics. In addition, if the met…
In the first part of this dissertation, we give a new definition of a Laplace operator for Finsler metric as an average, with regard to an angle measure, of the second directional derivatives. This operator is elliptic, symmetric with respect to the Holmes-Thompson volume, and coincides with the usual Laplace--Beltrami…
Study positive entropy actions by higher-rank lattices, proving rigidity and conjugacy results.
The existence of two geometrically distinct closed geodesics on an -dimensional sphere with a non-reversible and bumpy Finsler metric was shown independently by Duan--Long [7] and the author [27]. We simplify the proof of this statement by the following observation: If for some all closed ge…
We prove that certain volume preserving actions of Lie groups and their lattices do not preserve rigid geometric structures in the sense of Gromov. The actions considered are the "exotic" examples obtained by Katok and Lewis and the first author, by blowing up closed orbits in the well known actions on homogeneous spac…
In this paper, we consider a Finsler sphere with the dimension and the flag curvature . The action of the connected isometry group on , together with the action of shifting the parameter of the closed curve , define an action of…

Proves Gromov's conjecture and answers Stoker's polyhedron conjecture.
This paper gives an algebraic conjecture which is shown to be equivalent to Thurston's Geometrization Conjecture for closed, orientable 3-manifolds. It generalizes the Stallings-Jaco theorem which established a similar result for the Poincare Conjecture. The paper also gives two other algebraic conjectures; one is equi…
Symmetry-breaking in three differential geometry conjectures.
We introduce a new variant of the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture designed to tackle coarsely disconnected metric spaces called the boundary coarse Baum-Connes conjecture. We prove this conjecture for many coarsely disconnected spaces that are known to be counterexamples to the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture. In particula…

We review the Burghelea conjecture, which constitutes a full computation of the periodic cyclic homology of complex group rings, and its relation to the algebraic Baum-Connes conjecture. The Burghelea conjecture implies the Bass conjecture. We state two conjectures about groups of finite asymptotic dimension, which tog…

Proof outlined for 4D smooth Poincaré conjecture.
In order to give a unified generalization of the BW inequality and the DDVV inequality, Lu and Wenzel proposed three Conjectures 1, 2, 3 and an open Question 1 in 2016. In this paper we discuss further these conjectures and put forward several new conjectures which will be shown equivalent to Conjecture 2. In particula…
In this paper, we first generalize the common index jump theorem for symplectic matrix paths proved in 2002 by Long and Zhu in [LoZ], and get an enhanced version of it. As its applications, we further prove that for a compact simply-connected manifold with a bumpy, irreversible Finsler metric and $H^*(M;{\b…
