Galatius, Madsen, Tillmann and Weiss have identified the homotopy type of the classifying space of the cobordism category with objects (d-1)-dimensional manifolds embedded in R^\infty. In this paper we apply the techniques of spaces of manifolds, as developed by the author and Galatius, to identify the homotopy type of…

For a finite group GG, we define an equivariant cobordism category CdG\mathcal{C}_d^G. Objects of the category are (d1)(d-1)-dimensional closed smooth GG-manifolds and morphisms are smooth dd-dimensional equivariant cobordisms. We identify the homotopy type of its classifying space (i.e. geometric realization of its si…

We consider a category whose morphisms are bordisms of nn-dimensional pseudomanifolds equipped with a certain additional structure (coloring). On the other hand, we consider the product GG of (n+1)(n+1) copies of infinite symmetric group. We show that unitary representations of GG produce functors from the category of …

We give a presentation of the nn-dimensional oriented cobordism category Cobn\text{Cob}_n with generators corresponding to diffeomorphisms and surgeries along framed spheres, and a complete set of relations. Hence, given a functor FF from the category of smooth oriented manifolds and diffeomorphisms to an arbitrary cat…

We prove that the stable moduli space of (n1)(n-1)-connected, nn-parallelizable, (2n+1)(2n+1)-dimensional manifolds is homology equivalent to an infinite loopspace for n4,n7n \geq 4, n \neq 7. The main novel ingredient is a version of the cobordism category incorporating surgery data in the form of Lagrangian subspaces.

Let Ag,d\mathcal{A}_{g,d} be the (topological) cobordism category of orientable surfaces whose connected components are homeomorphic to either S1×IS^1 \times I with one incoming and one outgoing boundary component or the surface Σg,dΣ_{g,d} of genus gg and dd boundary components that are all incoming. In this paper, we stu…

A group-category is an additively semisimple category with a monoidal product structure in which the simple objects are invertible. For example in the category of representations of a group, 1-dimensional representations are the invertible simple objects. This paper gives a detailed exploration of "topological quantum …

We investigate the relationship between the algebra of tensor categories and the topology of framed 3-manifolds. On the one hand, tensor categories with certain algebraic properties determine topological invariants. We prove that fusion categories of nonzero global dimension are 3-dualizable, and therefore provide 3-di…

In this paper, we introduce a bordism category CdPL\mathcal{C}_d^{PL} whose objects are bundles of closed (d1)(d-1)-dimensional piecewise linear manifolds and whose morphisms are bundles of dd-dimensional piecewise linear cobordisms. In the main theorem of this article, we show that the classifying space $B\mathcal{C}_d^{…

The circle transfer QΣ(LXhS1)+QLX+QΣ(LX_{hS^1})_+ \to QLX_+ has appeared in several contexts in topology. In this note we observe that this map admits a geometric re-interpretation as a morphism of cobordism categories of 0-manifolds and 1-cobordisms. Let C1(X)C_1(X) denote the 1-dimensional cobordism category and let $Circ(X) \subse…

We construct a functor AC(,)AC(-,-) from the category of path connected spaces XX with a base point xx to the category of simply connected spaces. The following are the main results of the paper: (i) If XX is a Peano continuum then AC(X,x)AC(X,x) is a cell-like Peano continuum; (ii) If XX is nn-dimensional then AC(X,x)AC(X, x)

For (X,L) a polarized toric variety and G a torus of automorphisms of (X,L), denote by Y the GIT quotient X/G. We define a family of fully faithful functors from the category of torus equivariant reflexive sheaves on Y to the category of torus equivariant reflexive sheaves on X. We show, under a genericity assumption o…

We construct a state-sum type invariant of smooth closed oriented 44-manifolds out of a GG-crossed braided spherical fusion category (GG-BSFC) for GG a finite group. The construction can be extended to obtain a (3+1)(3+1)-dimensional topological quantum field theory (TQFT). The invariant of 44-manifolds generalizes s…

In this paper we will describe an approach to mirror symmetry for appropriate 1-dimensional DM stacks of arithmetic genus g1g \leq 1, called tcnc curves, which was developed by the author with Treumann and Zaslow in arXiv:1103.2462 . We give a construction of the abelian Chern-Simons gauge theory from the point of view of a 2+1 dimensional topological quantum field theory. Ideas of Rozansky and Witten, as developed by Kapranov, show that a complex symplectic manifold X gives rise to Vassiliev weight systems. In this paper we study these weight systems by using D(X), the derived category of coherent sheaves on X. The main idea (stated here a little imprecisely) is that D(X) is the categor…

We prove that if an (n-1)-dimensional torus acts symplectically on a 2n-dimensional manifold, then the action has a fixed point if and only if the action is Hamiltonian. One may regard it as a symplectic version of Frankel theorem. The case of n=2 is the well known theorem of McDuff. From the well known example of McDu…
