48 results for twisted conjugacy classes

Margalit and Schleimer constructed nontrivial roots of the Dehn twist about a nonseparating curve. We prove that the conjugacy classes of roots of the Dehn twist about a nonseparating curve correspond to the conjugacy classes of periodic maps with certain conditions. Futhermore, we give data set which determine the con…

Given a group automorphism φ:ΓΓφ:Γ\to Γ, one has an action of ΓΓ on itself by φφ-twisted conjugacy, namely, g.x=gxφ(g1)g.x=gxφ(g^{-1}). The orbits of this action are called φφ-conjugacy classes. One says that ΓΓ has the RR_\infty-property if there are infinitely many φφ-conjugacy classes for every automorphism φφ of ΓΓ. I…

Let G be a compact, simple, simply connected Lie group. A theorem of Freed-Hopkins-Teleman identifies the level k fusion ring R_k(G) of G with the twisted equivariant K-homology at level k+h, where h is the dual Coxeter number. In this paper, we review this result using the language of Dixmier-Douady bundles. We show t…

In this paper we give an algorithm for solving a main case of the conjugacy problem in the braid groups. We also prove that half-twists satisfy a special root property which allows us to reduce the solution for the conjugacy problem in half-twists into the free group.
