48 results for torus fiber bundles

Generalized complex structures on certain torus bundles are explored.

problem Exploring generalized complex structures on specific torus bundles.
method Analyzing principal torus bundles over complex manifolds with even dimensional fibers and characteristic class of type (1,1).
result Generalized complex structures on these bundles are equivalent to products of complex and symplectic structures in tubular neighborhoods of fibers.

After showing that a covering space of surface bundles over S1S^1 factors as a `covering of fibers' followed by a `power covering', we prove that, for torus bundles, power coverings do not lower Heegaard genus, and that fiber coverings lower the genus only in special cases.

Suppose that XX is a torus bundle over a closed surface with homologically essential fibers. Let XKX_K be the manifold obtained by Fintushel--Stern knot surgery on a fiber using a knot KS3K\subset S^3. We prove that XKX_K has a symplectic structure if and only if KK is a fibered knot. The proof uses Seiberg--Witten th…

In this note we define a lifting of a local torus action modeled on the standard representation (we call it a local torus action for simplicity) to a principal torus bundle, and show that there is an obstruction class for the existence of liftings in the first cohomology of the fundamental group of the orbit space with…

Let M be a hyperbolic manifold of finite volume which fibers over the circle with fiber a once punctured torus, and let S be an arbitrary incompressible surface in M. We determine the characteristic JSJ-subpair of M-S and show, in particular, that the guts of (M,S) is empty.

Supose that YY is a lens space with H1(Y;Z)|H_1(Y; \mathbb{Z})| prime, and YY does not contain a genus one fibered knot. We show that YY contains a knot whose exterior is a once-punctured torus bundle if and only if YY is the result of p/qp/q-surgery on the trefoil. This partially answers a question posed by Ken Baker in…

A principal toric bundle MM is a complex manifold equipped with a free holomorphic action of a compact complex torus TT. Such a manifold is fibered over M/TM/T, with fiber TT. We discuss the notion of positivity in fiber bundles and define positive toric bundles. Given an irreducible complex subvariety XMX\subset M o…

We generalize Hagopian's theorem characterizing solenoids to higher dimensions by showing that any homogeneous continuum admitting a fiber bundle projection onto a torus with totally disconnected fibers admits a compatible abelian topological group structure. The higher dimensional exponent group is then introduced.

We construct a Fourier--Mukai transform for smooth complex vector bundles EE over a torus bundle π:MB,π:M \to B, the vector bundles being endowed with various structures of increasing complexity. Using adiabatic limits of Eta invariants, Rho invariants of the total space of a fiber bundle are investigated.
