48 results for topological T-duality

We study topological T-duality for spaces with a semi-free S1S^1-action with isolated fixed points. Physically, these correspond to spacetimes containing Kaluza-Klein monopoles. We demonstrate that the physical dyonic coordinate of such spaces has an analogue in our formalism. By analogy with the Dirac monopole, we stu…

Recently we introduced T-duality in the study of topological insulators. In this paper, we study the bulk-boundary correspondence for three phenomena in condensed matter physics, namely, the quantum Hall effect, the Chern insulator, and time reversal invariant topological insulators. In all of these cases, we show that…

We study generalized complex structures and TT-duality (in the sense of Bouwknegt, Evslin, Hannabuss and Mathai) on Lie algebras and construct the corresponding Cavalcanti and Gualtieri map. Such a construction is called "Infinitesimal TT-duality". As an application we deal with the problem of finding symplectic stru…

We give a precise formulation of T-duality for Ramond-Ramond fields. This gives a canonical isomorphism between the "geometrically invariant" subgroups of the twisted differential K-theory of certain principal torus bundles. Our result combines topological T-duality with the Buscher rules found in physics.

We give a simplified definition of topological T-duality that applies to arbitrary torus bundles. The new definition does not involve Chern classes or spectral sequences, only gerbes and morphisms between them. All the familiar topological conditions for T-duals are shown to follow. We determine necessary and sufficien…

In this paper we study the topological T-dual of spaces with a non-free circle action mainly using the stack theory method of Bunke and co-workers \cite{Bunke1}. We first compare three formalisms for obtaining the Topological T-dual of a semi-free S1S^1-space in a simple example. Then, we calculate the T-dual of genera…

In string theory, the concept of T-duality between two principal U(1)-bundles E_1 and E_2 over the same base space B, together with cohomology classes h1H3(E1)h_1\in H^3(E_1) and h2H3(E2)h_2\in H^3(E_2), has been introduced. One of the main virtues of T-duality is that h1h_1-twisted K-theory of E1E_1 is isomorphic to h2h_2-twisted…

We describe how generalized complex geometry, which interpolates between complex and symplectic geometry, is compatible with T-duality, a relation between quantum field theories discovered by physicists. We study the topology of T-duality for pairs of U(1)-bundles and three-dimensional integral cohomology classes over orbispaces. In particular, our results apply to U(1)-spaces with finite isotropy. We generalize the theory developed in our previous paper math.GT/0405132 from spaces to orbispaces.

We extend topological T-duality to the case of general circle bundles. In this setting we prove existence and uniqueness of T-duals. We then show that T-dual spaces have isomorphic twisted cohomology, twisted KK-theory and Courant algebroids. A novel feature is that we must consider two kinds of twists in de Rham coho…

We present an explicit formula for the topology and H-flux of the T-dual of a general type II compactification, significantly generalizing earlier results. Our results apply to T-dualities with respect to any circle action on spacetime. As before, T-duality exchanges type IIA and type IIB string theories. A new consequ…

v2: An additional assumption was added in Theorem 4.8. In order to show that a connected abelian group is admissible on the site of locally compact spaces we must in addition assume that it is locally topologically divisible. This condition is used in the proof of Lemma 4.62.
