The paper "Minimal unit vector fields" by O. Gil-Medrano and E. Llinares-Fuster \cite{GilLli1}. is a seminal paper in the field that has been cited by many authors. It contains, however, a minor technical mistake in Theorem 14 that is important to fix. In this short note, we will provide a correction to that result.

Technical trading rules have a long history of being used by practitioners in financial markets. Their profitable ability and efficiency of technical trading rules are yet controversial. In this paper, we test the performance of more than seven thousands traditional technical trading rules on the Shanghai Securities Co…
A simplified tutorial on diffusion models for beginners.
New method combines machine learning with data assimilation for model error correction.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems sometimes make errors and will make errors in the future, from time to time. These errors are usually unexpected, and can lead to dramatic consequences. Intensive development of AI and its practical applications makes the problem of errors more important. Total re-engineering of the…
Corrects errors and completes missing parts in a paper on tangent cones.
For regular particle filter algorithm or Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods, the initial weights are traditionally dependent on the proposed distribution, the posterior distribution at the current timestamp in the sampled sequence, and the target is the posterior distribution of the previous timestamp. This is techni…
New AI error correctors improve classifier performance with provable guarantees.
UCBMQ improves Q-learning by adding momentum to correct bias and limit regret.
Unifies 18 definitions of surprise, classifies them into four categories.
The paper analyzes MACD using operator theory.
Online crowdsourcing provides a scalable and inexpensive means to collect knowledge (e.g. labels) about various types of data items (e.g. text, audio, video). However, it is also known to result in large variance in the quality of recorded responses which often cannot be directly used for training machine learning syst…
Computer science scans LLMs to understand and manipulate their economic forecasts.
This book is a detailed introduction to the theory of finite type (Vassiliev) knot invariants, with a stress on its combinatorial aspects. It is intended to serve both as a textbook for readers with no or little background in this area, and as a guide to some of the more advanced material. Our aim is to lead the reader…
Deep learning is also known as hierarchical learning, where the learner _learns_ to represent a complicated target function by decomposing it into a sequence of simpler functions to reduce sample and time complexity. This paper formally analyzes how multi-layer neural networks can perform such hierarchical learning _ef…
The paper analyzes the generalization error of min-norm interpolators in transfer learning with limited test samples.
CADR estimator improves inference for contextual bandit data.
The paper limits the profitability of technical trading rules and finds they are not better than random trading.
Given data with noisy labels, over-parameterized deep networks can gradually memorize the data, and fit everything in the end. Although equipped with corrections for noisy labels, many learning methods in this area still suffer overfitting due to undesired memorization. In this paper, to relieve this issue, we propose …
Algorithm learns dynamics from past observations.
Linear Mixed Models (LMMs) are important tools in statistical genetics. When used for feature selection, they allow to find a sparse set of genetic traits that best predict a continuous phenotype of interest, while simultaneously correcting for various confounding factors such as age, ethnicity and population structure…
Abstract: A new approach to technical indicators without lag.
In this paper we use fuzzy systems theory to convert the technical trading rules commonly used by stock practitioners into excess demand functions which are then used to drive the price dynamics. The technical trading rules are recorded in natural languages where fuzzy words and vague expressions abound. In Part I of t…
A new approach corrects bias in federated learning due to varying communication links.
We define a financial bubble as a period of unsustainable growth, when the price of an asset increases ever more quickly, in a series of accelerating phases of corrections and rebounds. More technically, during a bubble phase, the price follows a faster-than-exponential power law growth process, often accompanied by lo…
Let be a knot in a rational homology sphere . This paper investigates the question of when modifying by adding half-twists to two oppositely-oriented strands, while keeping the rest of fixed, produces a knot isotopic to . Such a two-strand twist of order , as we define it, is a generalized cr…
We construct a path integral based on the coupling of the Liouville action and the Mabuchi K-energy on a one-dimensional complex manifold. To the best of our knowledge this is the first rigorous construction of such an object and this is done by means of probabilistic tools. Both functionals play an important role resp…
Revisits life insurance surplus models with new technical bases.
We investigate the performance of dynamic portfolios constructed using more than 21,000 technical trading rules on 12 categorical and country-specific markets over the 2004-2015 study period, on rolling forward structures of different lengths. We also introduce a discrete false discovery rate (DFRD+/-) method for contr…
Weak form of the Efficiency Market Hypothesis (EMH) excludes predictions of future market movements from historical data and makes the technical analysis (TA) out of law. However the technical analysis is widely used by traders and speculators who steadely refuse to consider the market as a "fair game" and survive with…
In this paper, a neural network-based stock price prediction and trading system using technical analysis indicators is presented. The model developed first converts the financial time series data into a series of buy-sell-hold trigger signals using the most commonly preferred technical analysis indicators. Then, a Mult…
In this dissertation, the main goal is visualisation of financial time series. We expect that visualisation of financial time series will be a useful auxiliary for technical analysis. Firstly, we review the technical analysis methods and test our trading rules, which are built by the essential concepts of technical ana…
This study improves stock price prediction for Apple Inc. using feature selection and regression models with technical indicators.
The purpose of this paper is to construct confidence intervals for the regression coefficients in the Fine-Gray model for competing risks data with random censoring, where the number of covariates can be larger than the sample size. Despite strong motivation from biomedical applications, a high-dimensional Fine-Gray mo…
