We conjecture that the automorphism group of a topological parallelism on real projective 3-space is compact. We prove that at least the identity component of this group is, indeed, compact.

We show that the connected sum of two copies of real projective 3-space does not admit a real projective structure. This is the first known example of a connected 3-manifold without a real projective structure.
We prove that the automorphism group of a topological parallelism on real projective 3-space is compact. In a preceding article it was proved that at least the connected component of the identity is compact. The present proof does not depend on that earlier result.

The paper classifies knots in real projective 3-space and introduces new geometric tools.
Links with isotopic preimages in are isotopic in .
We prove that for every compact, connected, differentiable 3--manifold there is a compact complex manifold which can be obtained from projective 3--space by a sequence of smooth, real blow ups and downs such that is diffeomorphic to the set of real points of . By earlier results, such an can almost n…
Study of Demoulin surfaces using Gauss maps and conformal coordinates.
The paper gives topological as well as rigid isotopy classification of smooth irreducible algebraic curves in the real projective 3-space for the case when the degree of the curve is at most six and its genus is at most one.
We present a local classification of smooth projective surfaces in 3-space via projective transformations in accordance with singularity types of central projections up to codimension 4. We also discuss relations between our classification of Monge forms and bifurcations of parabolic curves and flecnodal curves.
Every 4-manifold can be smoothly embedded in complex projective 3-space.
Proves existence of elliptic Reeb orbit on real projective 3-space using ECH.
We estimate from below the number of lines meeting each of given 4 disjoint smooth closed curves in a given cyclic order in the real projective 3-space and in a given linear order in the Euclidean 3-space. Similarly, we estimate the number of circles meeting in a given cyclic order given 6 disjoint smooth closed curves…
A correspondence is studied by H. Matsuda between front projections of Legendrian links in the standard contact structure for 3-space and rectangular diagrams. In this paper, we introduce braided rectangular diagrams, and study a relationship with Legendrian links in the standard contact structure for 3-space. We show …
We give a short, simple and conceptual proof, based on spin structures, of sphere eversion: an embedded 2-sphere in can be turned inside out by regular homotopy. Ingredients of this eversion are seamlessly connected. We also give the mathematical origins of the proof: the Hopf fibration, and the topological struc…

New BDEs reveal singular surfaces from line congruences.
Starting from a real analytic conformal Cartan connection on a real analytic surface , we construct a complex surface containing a family of pairs of projective lines. Using the structure on we also construct a complex -space , such that is a twistor space of a self-dual conformal -fold and …
Synthetic construction of Hopf fibration in 4D space.
We give an elementary proof of the fact that any orientable 3-manifold admits a framing (i.e. is parallelizable) and any non-orientable 3-manifold admits a projective framing. The proof uses only basic facts about immersions of surfaces in 3-space.
We show some generic (robust) properties of smooth surfaces immersed in the real 3-space (Euclidean, affine or projective), in the neighbourhood of a {\em godron} (term due to R.Thom): an isolated parabolic point at which the (unique) asymptotic direction is tangent to the parabolic curve. With the help of these proper…
Paper defines conditions for projective links in projective 3-space.
The Willmore energy for Frenet curves in quaternionic projective space is the generalization of the Willmore functional for immersions into the 4-sphere. Critical points of the Willmore energy are called Willmore curves in quaternionic projective space. Using a Baecklund transformation on Willmore curves, we generalize…
We use the isotropic projection of Laguerre geometry in order to establish a correspondence between plane curves and null curves in the Minkowski -space. We describe the geometry of null curves (Cartan frame, pseudo-arc parameter, pseudo-torsion, pairs of associated curves) in terms of the curvature of the correspon…
We give a classification of non-removable isolated singularities for real analytic solutions of the prescribed mean curvature equation in Minkowski -space.
In the previous paper (arXiv:0804.0701), the authors gave criteria for A_{k+1}-type singularities on wave fronts. Using them, we show in this paper that there is a duality between singular points and inflection points on wave fronts in the projective space. As an application, we show that the algebraic sum of 2-inflect…
Some of the most important classes of surfaces in projective 3-space are reviewed: these are isothermally asymptotic surfaces, projectively applicable surfaces, surfaces of Jonas, projectively minimal surfaces, etc. It is demonstrated that the corresponding projective "Gauss-Codazzi" equations reduce to integrable syst…
The paper finds and visualizes unique geometric polyhedra and tori with few vertices.
The isotropic 3-space \mathbb{I}^{3} is a real affine 3-space endowed with the metric dx^{2}+dy^{2}. In this paper we describe Weingarten and linear Weingarten affine translation surfaces in \mathbb{I}^{3}. Further we classify the affine translation surfaces in \mathbb{I}^{3} that satisfy certain equations in terms of …
Equal-volume polygons are obtained from adequate discretizations of curves in 3-space, contained or not in surfaces. In this paper we explore the similarities of these polygons with the affine arc-length parameterized smooth curves to develop a theory of discrete affine invariants. Besides obtaining discrete affine inv…
A generic immersion of a planar graph into the 2-space is said to be knotted if there does not exist a trivial embedding of the graph into the 3-space obtained by lifting the immersion with respect to the natural projection from the 3-space to the 2-space. In this paper we show that if a generic immersion of a planar g…

Defines Vassiliev complexity measures for open and closed curves in 3D space.
In 1900, Macfarlane proposed a hyperbolic variation on Hamilton's quaternions that closely resembles Minkowski spacetime. Viewing this in a modern context, we expand upon Macfarlane's idea and develop a model for real hyperbolic 3-space in which both points and isometries are expressed as complex quaternions, analogous…
We establish cross-ratio invariants for surfaces in 4-space in an analogous way to Uribe-Vargas's work for surfaces in 3-space. We study the geometric locii of local and multi-local singularities of ortogonal projections of the surface. The cross-ratio invariants at -points are used to recover two moduli in the…
The paper explores affine geometry of line congruences using singularity theory.
The fundamental 2-form of an invariant almost Hermitian structure on a 6-dimensional Lie group is described in terms of an action by SO(4)xU(1) on complex projective 3-space. This leads to a combinatorial description of the classes of almost Hermitian structures on the Iwasawa and other nilmanifolds.
It is well-known that the unit cotangent bundle of any Riemannian manifold has a canonical contact structure. A surface in a Riemannian 3-manifold is called a (wave) front if it is the projection of a Legendrian immersion into the unit cotangent bundle. We shall give easily-computable criteria for a singular point on a…
It is classically known that the only zero mean curvature entire graphs in the Euclidean 3-space are planes, by Bernstein's theorem. A surface in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space is called of mixed type if it changes causal type from space-like to time-like. In , Osamu Kobayashi found …
It is demonstrated that the stationary Veselov-Novikov (VN) and the stationary modified Veselov-Novikov (mVN) equations describe one and the same class of surfaces in projective differential geometry: the so-called isothermally asymptotic surfaces, examples of which include arbitrary quadrics and cubics, quartics of Ku…
We present a complete set of criteria for determining A-types of plane-to-plane map-germs of corank one with A-codimension <7, which provides a new insight into the A-classification theory from the viewpoint of recognition problem. As an application to generic differential geometry, we discuss about projections of smoo…
Novel Jones polynomial for open curves in 3D space.
We prove a version of the classical Runge and Mergelyan uniform approximation theorems for non-orientable minimal surfaces in Euclidean 3-space R3. Then, we obtain some geometric applications. Among them, we emphasize the following ones: 1. A Gunning-Narasimhan type theorem for non-orientable conformal surfaces. 2. An …
This is the first comprehensive introduction to the authors' recent attempts toward a better understanding of the global concepts behind spinor representations of surfaces in 3-space. The important new aspect is a quaternionic-valued function theory, whose "meromorphic functions" are conformal maps into quaternions, wh…
Triple linking numbers were defined for 3-component oriented surface-links in 4-space using signed triple points on projections in 3-space. In this paper we give an algebraic formulation using intersections of homology classes (or cup products on cohomology groups). We prove that spherical links have trivial triple lin…
