We show that the mapping class group of a closed oriented surface of genus at least three is generated by 3 elements of order 3 and by 4 elements of order 4. Note that the mapping class group cannot be generated by finitely many torsion elements of same order if genus is equal to one or two.

Proves mapping class group generated by two torsion elements for certain surfaces.
The paper classifies 3-manifold groups with specific torsion elements.
Two elements generate extended mapping class groups of certain surfaces.
A positive integer will be called a {\it finitistic order} for an element of a group if there exist a finite group and a homomorphism such that has order in . It is shown that up to conjugacy, all but finitely many elements of a given finitely generated, torsion-free Kleinian gr…
We show that for any at least and sufficiently large, the mapping class group of a surface of genus can be generated by three elements of order . We also show that this can be done with four elements of order . We additionally prove similar results for some permutation groups, linear groups, and a…
New findings on generating mapping class groups with specific torsion elements.
Let be the closed oriented surface of genus g and let be the mapping class group. When the genus is at least 3, can be generated by torsion elements. We prove the follow results. For , can be generated by 4 torsion elements. Three generators are invo…
We introduce a notion of natural orderings of elements of finite connected quandles of order . When the elements of such a quandle are already ordered naturally, any automophism on is a natural ordering. Although there are many natural orderings, the operation tables for such orderings coincide when the perm…
Bi-orderable groups from left-orderable ones, showing non-profinite properties.
We show that mapping class groups of surfaces of genus at least two contain elements of infinite order that are not conjugate to their inverses, but whose powers have bounded torsion lengths. In particular every homogeneous quasi-homomorphism vanishes on such an element, showing that elements of infinite order not conj…
The paper improves convergence rates of curvature approximations using Regge elements.
Levine defined the rational algebraic knot concordance group and proved that each nontrivial element is of order two, of order four, or of infinite order. The determination of the order of an element depends on a p-adic analysis for all primes p. Here we develop effective means to determine the order of any element tha…
Let be the closed oriented surface of genus g and let be the extended mapping class group of . When the genus is at least 5, we prove that can be generated by two torsion elements. One of these generators is an order 2 element, and the other one is an order 4g+…
Let G be a finitely generated group with a given word metric. The asymptotic density of elements in G that have a particular property P is defined to be the limit, as r goes to infinity, of the proportion of elements in the ball of radius r which have the property P. We obtain a formula to compute the asymptotic densit…
New group with non-loxodromic Morse element found.
We prove that an Alexander quandle of prime order is generated by any pair of distinct elements. Furthermore, we prove for such a quandle that any ordered pair of distinct elements can be sent to any other such pair by an automorphism of the quandle.
The study finds generalized torsion elements in 3-manifolds from specific knot surgeries.
New findings on generating mapping class groups of nonorientable surfaces.
We prove that for genus , the extended mapping class group can be generated by two elements of finite orders. But for , cannot be generated by two elements of finite orders.
The concordance group of algebraically slice knots is the subgroup of the classical knot concordance group formed by algebraically slice knots. Results of Casson and Gordon and of Jiang showed that this group contains in infinitely generated free (abelian) subgroup. Here it is shown that the concordance group of algebr…
Study on mapping class groups of infinite type surfaces.
It is known that a bi-orderable group has no generalized torsion element, but the converse does not hold in general. We conjecture that the converse holds for the fundamental groups of 3-manifolds, and verify the conjecture for non-hyperbolic, geometric 3-manifolds. We also confirm the conjecture for some infinite fami…
The study characterizes elements of a group quotient and finds a non-locally indicable left-orderable group.
Positive Dehn twist products for some elements of finite order in the mapping class group of a 2-dimensional closed, compact, oriented surface , which are rotations of through , are presented. The homeomorphism invariants of the resulting simply connected symplectic 4- manifolds are computed.
The study finds infinitely many hyperbolic 3-manifolds with large rank and generalized torsion elements.
We classify the groups quasi-isometric to a group generated by finite-order elements within the class of one-ended hyperbolic groups which are not Fuchsian and whose JSJ decomposition over two-ended subgroups does not contain rigid vertex groups. To do this, we characterize which JSJ trees of a group in this class admi…
We consider contact elements in the sutured Floer homology of solid tori with longitudinal sutures, as part of the (1+1)-dimensional topological quantum field theory defined by Honda--Kazez--Matić in \cite{HKM08}. The of these solid tori forms a "categorification of Pascal's triangle", and contact structur…
Study on minimal torsion topological generators for mapping class groups of infinite-type surfaces.
Wajnryb proved that the mapping class group of an orientable surface is generated by two elements. We prove that one of these generators can be taken as a Dehn twist. We also prove that the extended mapping class group is generated by two elements, again one of which is a Dehn twist. Another result we prove is that the…
Finite order elements with infinite centralizers in 3-manifold groups imply specific structure.
The paper improves CR Sobolev inequalities and classifies minimizers.
We show that symplectically embedded -tori give rise to certain elements in the symplectic mapping class group of -manifolds. An example is given where such elements are proved to be of infinite order.
In this paper we give a new basis, , for the Homflypt skein module of the solid torus, , which was predicted by Jozef Przytycki, using topological interpretation. The basis is different from the basis , discovered independently by Hoste--Kidwell \cite{HK} and Turaev \cite{Tu} w…
An algorithm is proposed that solves two decision problems for pseudo-Anosov elements in the mapping class group of a surface with at least one marked fixed point. The first problem is the root problem: decide if the element is a power and in this case compute the roots. The second problem is the symmetry problem: deci…
In this paper we find a unique normal form for the symplectic matrix representation of the conjugacy class of a prime order element of the mapping-class group. We find a set of generators for the fundamental group of a surface with a conformal automorphism of prime order which reflects the action the automorphism in an…
The paper classifies reversible and strongly reversible elements in Hermitian isometry groups.
New finite element method for complex forms in any dimension.
Proves existence of infinite order elements in curvature spaces.
We derive a new high-order compact finite difference scheme for option pricing in stochastic volatility jump models, e.g. in Bates model. In such models the option price is determined as the solution of a partial integro-differential equation. The scheme is fourth order accurate in space and second order accurate in ti…
The study calculates the growth rate of reciprocal hyperbolic elements in Hecke groups.
Let Mod_{g,b} denote the mapping class group of a surface of genus g with b punctures. Feng Luo asked in a recent preprint if there is a universal upper bound, independent of genus, for the number of torsion elements needed to generate Mod_{g,b}. We answer Luo's question by proving that 3 torsion elements suffice to ge…
New examples of hyperbolic links with generalized torsion elements found.
The well-known Gumbel-Max Trick for sampling elements from a categorical distribution (or more generally a nonnegative vector) and its variants have been widely used in areas such as machine learning and information retrieval. To sample a random element (or a Gumbel-Max variable ) in proportion to its positive w…
The second order method as Newton Step is a suitable technique in Online Learning to guarantee regret bound. The large data is a challenge in Newton method to store second order matrices as hessian. In this paper, we have proposed an modified online Newton step that store first and second order matrices of dimension m …
We show that all twist knots, certain double twist knots and some other 2-bridge knots are minimal elements for the partial ordering on the set of prime knots. The key to these results are presentations of their character varieties using Chebyshev polynomials and a criterion for irreducibility of a polynomial of two va…
Let be a group. An element in is called reversible if it is conjugate to within , and called strongly reversible if it is conjugate to its inverse by an order two element of . Let be the -dimensional quaternionic hyperbolic space. Let be the i…
In this paper, we establish upper bounds on the length of the shortest conjugator between pairs of infinite order elements in a wide class of groups. We obtain a general result which applies to all hierarchically hyperbolic groups, a class which includes mapping class groups, right-angled Artin groups, Burger--Mozes-ty…
