48 results for odd primes

Let K be a an alternating prime knot in the 3-sphere. We investigate the category of flypes between reduced alternating diagrams for K. As a consequence, we show that any odd prime order action on K is isotopic through maps of pairs to a single flype. This implies that for any odd prime order action on K there is eithe…

We prove that a prime knot K is not determined by its p-fold cyclic branched cover for at most two odd primes p. Moreover, we show that for a given odd prime p, the p-fold cyclic branched cover of a prime knot K is the p-fold cyclic branched cover of at most one more knot K' non equivalent to K. To prove the main theor…

The aim of this paper is to show the rigidity of homologically trivial actions of prime order on K3 surfaces. To be precise, we show that homotopy K3 surfaces do not admit a periodic diffeomorphism of odd prime order 3 acting trivially on cohomology. Moreover, we give an obstruction in terms of the rationality and sign…

We prove that an integral homology 3-sphere is S^3 if and only if it admits four periodic diffeomorphisms of odd prime orders whose space of orbits is S^3. As an application we show that an irreducible integral homology sphere which is not S^3 is the cyclic branched cover of odd prime order of at most four knots in S^3…

Let K be a knot in the 3-sphere with 2-fold branched covering space M. As one application, recall that the n-twisted double of an arbitrary knot has o…

We show that a rank two finite group G admits a finite G-CW-complex X homotopy equivalent to a sphere, with rank one prime power isotropy, if and only if G does not p'-involve Qd(p) for any odd prime p. The m,n Turk's Head Knot, THK(m,n), is an "alternating (m,n) torus knot." We prove the Harary-Kauffman conjecture for all THK(m,n) except for the case where m \geq 5 is odd and n \geq 3 is relatively prime to m.
