Study laws of cosines and sines for hyperbolic shapes with ideal vertices.
The paper sets new limits on hyperbolic polyhedra volumes.
New bounds found for vertices of hyperbolic polyhedra in dimensions 5 to 12.
In this note we combinatorialise a technique of Novikov. We use this to prove that, in a three-manifold equipped with a taut ideal triangulation, any vertical or normal loop is essential in the fundamental group.
The constraint reaction force of ideal nonholonomic constraints in time-dependent mechanics on a configuration bundle is obtained. Using the vertical extension of Hamiltonian formalism to the vertical tangent bundle of , the Hamiltonian of a nonholonomic constrained system is constructed.
We prove that for all a shellable -dimensional simplicial complex with at most vertices is extendably shellable. The proof involves considering the structure of `exposed' edges in chordal graphs as well as a connection to linear quotients of quadratic monomial ideals.
We provide an example in each rank of an ageometric fully irreducible outer automorphism whose ideal Whitehead graph has a cut vertex. Consequently, we show that there exist examples in each rank of Handel-Mosher axis bundles that are not just a single axis, as well as of "nongeneric" behavior in the sense of the "trai…
In this paper, we parametrize the space of isometric immersions of the hyperbolic plane into the hyperbolic 3-space in terms of null-causal curves in the space of oriented geodesics. Moreover, we characterize "ideal cones" (i.e., cones whose vertices are on the ideal boundary) by behavior of their mean curvature.
Study strip deformations of hyperbolic polygons with decorated vertices.
A hyperbolic semi-ideal polyedron is a polyedron whose vertices lie inside the hyperbolic space or at infinity. A hyperideal polyedron is, in the projective model, the intersection of with a projective polyhedron whose vertices all lie outside of , and whose edges all m…
Given k>=2, we construct a (2k-2)-parameter family of properly embedded minimal surfaces in H^2 x R invariant by a vertical translation T, called Saddle Towers, which have total intrinsic curvature 4 pi(1-k), genus zero and 2k vertical Scherk-type ends in the quotient by T. As limits of those Saddle Towers, we obtain J…
HDP-VFL hybridizes DP for VFL, reducing privacy costs.
Upper bounds for volumes of hyperbolic polyhedra and links are derived.
Laurent Hauswirth and Harold Rosenberg developed the theory of minimal surfaces with finite total curvature in $\H^2\times\R$. They showed that the total curvature of one such a surface must be a non-negative integer multiple of . The first examples appearing in this context are vertical geodesic planes and Scherk…
Develops a method to disaggregate aerosol optical depth into vertical extinction profiles.
We show how to construct, for each , an ageometric, fully irreducible whose ideal Whitehead graph is the complete graph on vertices. This paper is the second in a series of three where we show that precisely eighteen of the twenty-one connected, simplicial, five-vertex graphs are ideal …
We explore visual representations of tilings corresponding to Schläfli symbols. In three dimensions, we call these tilings "honeycombs". Schläfli symbols encode, in a very efficient way, regular tilings of spherical, euclidean and hyperbolic spaces in all dimensions. In three dimensions, there are only a finite number …
In this paper we consider a class of right-angled polyhedra in three-dimensional Lobachevsky space, all vertices of which lie on the absolute. New upper bounds on volumes in terms the number of faces of the polyhedron are obtained. Volumes of polyhedra with at most 23 faces are computed. It is shown that the minimum vo…
An equiangular hyperbolic Coxeter polyhedron is a hyperbolic polyhedron where all dihedral angles are equal to π/n for some fixed integer n at least 2. It is a consequence of Andreev's theorem that either n=3 and the polyhedron has all ideal vertices or that n=2. Volume estimates are given for all equiangular hyperboli…
Classifies positive integral friezes on surfaces.
Characterizes polygonal surfaces in pseudo-hyperbolic spaces.
Given a pair of graphs and and a vertex set of interest in , the vertex nomination (VN) problem seeks to find the corresponding vertices of interest in (if they exist) and produce a rank list of the vertices in , with the corresponding vertices of interest in concentrating, ideally, at…
We establish a connection between two previously unrelated topics: a particular discrete version of conformal geometry for triangulated surfaces, and the geometry of ideal polyhedra in hyperbolic three-space. Two triangulated surfaces are considered discretely conformally equivalent if the edge lengths are related by s…
We prove, in the case of hyperbolic 3-space, a couple of conjectures raised by J. J. Seidel in "On the volume of a hyperbolic simplex", Stud. Sci. Math. Hung. 21, 243-249, 1986. These conjectures concern expressing the volume of an ideal hyperbolic tetrahedron as a monotonic function of algebraic maps. More precisely, …
0-efficient triangulations of 3-manifolds are defined and studied. It is shown that any triangulation of a closed, orientable, irreducible 3-manifold M can be modified to a 0-efficient triangulation or M can be shown to be one of the manifolds S^3, RP^3 or L(3,1). Similarly, any triangulation of a compact, orientable, …
We present explicit geometric decompositions of the complement of tiling links, which are alternating links whose projection graphs are uniform tilings of the 2-sphere, the Euclidean plane or the hyperbolic plane. This requires generalizing the angle structures program of Casson and Rivin for triangulations with a mixt…
We study convex polyhedra in with all their vertices on a sphere. We do not require, in particular, that the polyhedra lie in the interior of the sphere, hence the term "weakly inscribed". Such polyhedra can be interpreted as ideal polyhedra, if we regard as a combinati…
Unified method to calculate Gromov norm for Kähler classes of bounded symmetric domains.
We use a variational principle to prove an existence and uniqueness theorem for planar weighted Delaunay triangulations (with non-intersecting site-circles) with prescribed combinatorial type and circle intersection angles. Such weighted Delaunay triangulations may be interpreted as images of hyperbolic polyhedra with …
The paper explores how to find relevant vertices in one graph using another graph's attributes and structure.
Let M be an oriented compact 3-manifold and let T be a (loose) triangulation of M, with ideal vertices at the components of the boundary of M and possibly internal vertices. We show that any spin structure s on M can be encoded by extra combinatorial structures on T. We then analyze how to change these extra structures…
Researchers prove the arc complexes of decorated hyperbolic polygons are balls.
Minimal covolume group found in hyperbolic 3-space.
This paper studies deformations of hyperbolic surfaces with special structures.
A hyperbolic 3-simplex reflection group is a Coxeter group arising as a lattice in the isometry group of hyperbolic 3-space, with fundamental domain a geodesic simplex (possibly with some ideal vertices). The classification of these groups is known, and there are exactly 9 cocompact examples, and 23 non-cocompact examp…
Markov's theorem classifies the worst irrational numbers with respect to rational approximation and the indefinite binary quadratic forms whose values for integer arguments stay farthest away from zero. The main purpose of this paper is to present a new proof of Markov's theorem using hyperbolic geometry. The main ingr…
Improved volume estimates for right-angled polyhedra in hyperbolic space.
We study complete minimal graphs in HxR, which take asymptotic boundary values plus and minus infinity on alternating sides of an ideal inscribed polygon Γ in H. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on the "lenghts" of the sides of the polygon (and all inscribed polygons in Γ) that ensure the existence…

Study rigidity and volume optimization of hyperbolic polyhedra.
For a compact right-angled polyhedron in denote by the volume and by the number of vertices. Upper and lower bounds for in terms of were obtained in \cite{A09}. Constructing a 2-parameter family of po…
We consider 3-dimensional pseudo-manifolds M with a given set of marked point V such that M-V is the interior of a compact 3-manifold with boundary. An ideal triangulation T of (M, V ) has V as its set of vertices. A branching (T, b) enhances T to a Delta-complex. Branched triangulations of (M, V ) are considered up to…
We prove a Hardy inequality for uniformly elliptic operators subject to Dirichlet or mixed boundary conditions on domains with piecewiese smooth boundary in arbitrary Riemannian Manifolds (M, g). Employing an approach of E.B. Davies for the euclidean case, we show that it implies a sufficient geometric criterion un…
We prove the three embeddedness results as follows. Let be a piecewise geodesic Jordan curve with vertices in , where is an integer . Then the total curvature of . In particular, the total curvature of and thus any minimal surface $Σ\subset \…
Matveev and Piergallini independently showed that, with a small number of known exceptions, any triangulation of a three-manifold can be transformed into any other triangulation of the same three-manifold with the same number of vertices, via a sequence of 2-3 and 3-2 moves. We can interpret this as showing that the Pa…
