Each homogeneous Lorentzian 3-manifold in the 2-parameter family has a solvable Lie group structure with left invariant metric. A generalized integral repre…

In this paper, we study the positive cross curvature flow on locally homogeneous 3-manifolds. We describe the long time behavior of these flows. We combine this with earlier results concerning the asymptotic behavior of the negative cross curvature flow to describe the two sided behavior of maximal solutions of the cro…

The end homogeneity group is the group of self-homeomorphisms of the end set that extend to homeomorphisms of the 3-m…

We solve the Bonnet problem for surfaces in the homogeneous 3-manifolds with a 4-dimensional isometry group. More specifically, we show that a simply connected real analytic surface in H^2xR or S^2xR is uniquely determined pointwise by its metric and its principal curvatures if and only if it is not a minimal or a prop…

Chow and Hamilton introduced the cross curvature flow on closed 3-manifolds with negative or positive sectional curvature. In this paper, we study the negative cross curvature flow in the case of locally homogenous metrics on 3-manifolds. In each case, we describe the long time behavior of the solutions of the correspo…

problem Analyze eigenvalues of Laplace operator with potential under backward Ricci flow.
method Use backward Ricci flow on locally homogeneous 3-manifolds, derive bounds and convergence results.
result Eigenvalue λ+(t)λ^{+}(t) approaches zero as flow converges to sub-Riemannian geometry.

Observational data hints at a finite universe, with spherical manifolds such as the Poincare dodecahedral space tentatively providing the best fit. Simulating the physics of a model universe requires knowing the eigenmodes of the Laplace operator on the space. The present article provides explicit polynomial eigenmodes…

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a 2-dimensional Riemannian manifold to be locally isometrically immersed into a 3-dimensional homogeneous manifold with a 4-dimensional isometry group. The condition is expressed in terms of the metric, the second fundamental form, and data arising from an ambient Killin…

In this paper, we study the backward Ricci flow on locally homogeneous 3-manifolds. We describe the long time behavior and show that, typically and after a proper re-scaling, there is convergence to a sub-Riemannian geometry. A similar behavior was observed by the authors in the case of the cross curvature flow.

We compute the pp-primary components of the linking pairings of orientable 3-manifolds admitting a fixed-point free S1S^1-action. Using this, we show that any non-singular linking pairing on a finite abelian group with homogeneous 2-primary summand is realized by such a manifold. However, some pairings on inhomogeneou…
