Study extends isometric immersions using submanifolds.
Study fourth-order geometric flow of shape operator for co-dimension one immersions.
In this paper we define two regular homotopy invariants c and i for immersions of oriented 3-manifolds into R^5 in a geometric manner. The pair (c(f),i(f)) completely describes the regular homotopy class of the immersion f. The invariant i corresponds to the 3-dimensional obstruction that arises from Hirsch-Smale theor…
The paper explores null hypersurfaces in Lorentzian manifolds using geometric immersions.
Paper proves existence of curves with specific geometric properties.
We study the problem of rigidity of closures of totally geodesic plane immersions in geometrically finite manifolds containing rank cusps. We show that the key notion of K-thick recurrence of horocycles fails generically in this setting. This property was introduced in the recent work of McMullen, Mohammadi and Oh.…

Geometric interpretation of 3-manifold invariants using immersed curves.
We define generalized currents associated with immersions of abstract oriented solenoids with a transversal measure. We realize geometrically the full real homology of a compact manifold with these generalized currents, and more precisely with immersions of minimal uniquely ergodic solenoids. This makes precise and geo…
Paper defines a new invariant for surface immersions.
Here are studied pairs of transversal foliations with singularities, defined on the Elliptic region (where the Gaussian curvature is positive) of an oriented surface immersed in . The leaves of the foliations are the lines of geometric mean curvature, along which the normal curvature is given …
We develop a compactness result near the boundary for families of locally convex immersions. We also develop a mod 2 degree theory for immersion of constant (and prescribed) Gaussian curvature with prescribed boundary. These are then used to solve the Plateau problem for immersions of constant (and prescribed) Gaussian…
We give three formulas expressing the Smale invariant of an immersion f of a (4k-1)-sphere into (4k+1)-space. The terms of the formulas are geometric characteristics of any generic smooth map g of any oriented 4k-dimensional manifold, where g restricted to the boundary is an immersion regularly homotopic to f in (6k-1)…
We introduce an elliptic regularization of the PDE system representing the isometric immersion of a surface in . The regularization is geometric, and has a natural variational interpretation.
We define generalized currents associated with immersions of abstract solenoids with a transversal measure. We realize geometrically the full real homology of a compact manifold with these generalized currents, and more precisely with immersions of minimal uniquely ergodic solenoids. This makes precise and geometric De…
We study biminimal immersions, that is immersions which are critical points of the bienergy for normal variations with fixed energy. We give a geometrical description of the Euler-Lagrange equation associated to biminimal immersions for: i) biminimal curves in a Riemannian manifold, with particular care to the case of …
Uniform negative immersions prove coherence of one-relator groups.
In this article we propose a novel geometric model to study the motion of a physical flag. In our approach a flag is viewed as an isometric immersion from the square with values in satisfying certain boundary conditions at the flag pole. Under additional regularity constraints we show that the space of al…
The notion of the geometrical --control of self-intersection of a skew-framed immersion and the notion of the -structure (the cyclic structure) on the self-intersection manifold of a $\D_4$-framed immersion are introduced. It is shown that a skew-framed immersion $f:M^{\frac{3n+q}{4}…

This paper introduces a complex representation for spacelike surfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowski space , based in two complex valued functions which can be assumed to be holomorphic or anti-holomorphic. When the immersion is contained in quadrics of , the representation then allows us to obtain interesting part…
Regular homotopy classes of immersions of a 3-sphere in 5-space constitute an infinite cyclic group. The classes containing embeddings form a subgroup of index 24. The obstruction for a generic immersion to be regularly homotopic to an embedding is described in terms of geometric invariants of its self intersection. Ge…
This paper studies conformal biharmonic immersions. We first study the transformations of Jacobi operator and the bitension field under conformal change of metrics. We then obtain an invariant equation for a conformal biharmonic immersion of a surface into Euclidean 3-space. As applications, we construct a 2-parameter …
New method shows stability of Willmore immersions' Morse index and nullity.
In this paper a geometric approach toward stable homotopy groups of spheres, based on the Pontrjagin-Thom construction is proposed. From this approach a new proof of Hopf Invariant One Theorem by J.F.Adams for all dimensions except is obtained. It is proved that for in the stable homotopy group o…
The geometric Hopf invariant of a stable map F is a stable Z_2-equivariant map h(F) such that the stable Z_2-equivariant homotopy class of h(F) is the primary obstruction to F being homotopic to an unstable map. In this paper we express the geometric Hopf invariant of the Umkehr map F of an immersion f:M^m \to N^n in t…

MATLAB toolbox pde2path solves geometric PDEs and finds bifurcations in immersed surfaces.
We obtain complete geometric invariants of cobordism classes of oriented simple fold maps of (n+1)-dimensional manifolds into an n-dimensional manifold N in terms of immersions with prescribed normal bundles. We compute that this cobordism group of simple fold maps is isomorphic to the direct sum of the (n-1)th stable …
Analytic saddle spheres in S^3 are equators.
We give complete geometric invariants of cobordisms of fold maps with oriented singular set and cobordisms of even codimensional fold maps. These invariants are given in terms of cobordisms of stably framed manifolds and cobordisms of immersions with prescribed normal bundles defined by the author in his earlier works.
We give geometric formulae which enable us to detect (completely in some cases) the regular homotopy class of an immersion with trivial normal bundle of a closed oriented 3-manifold into 5-space. These are analogues of the geometric formulae for the Smale invariants due to Ekholm and the second author. As a corollary, …
Extends submanifold theorem to general spaces.
Using a deep criteria due to Pigola, Rigoli and Setti, we prove that a geodesically complete, properly immersed submanifold M of a stochastically complete Riemannian manifold N is stochastically complete. This implies that the weak Omori-Yau maximum principle holds on M. As geometric application, we prove sectional cur…

Anisotropic curvature flow of networks shows unique solutions and behavior under finite time.
First order invariants of generic immersions of manifolds of dimension nm-1 into manifolds of dimension n(m+1)-1, m,n>1 are constructed using the geometry of self-intersections. The range of one of these invariants is related to Bernoulli numbers. As by-products some geometrically defined invariants of regular homotopy…
In this work we consider the Taylor expansion of the exponential map of a submanifold immersed in R^n up to order three, in order to introduce the concepts of lateral and frontal deviation. We compute the directions of extreme lateral and frontal deviation for surfaces in R^3. Also we compute, by using the Taylor expan…
The cobordism group of codimension-one immersions in the -manifold has a natural filtration induced by any cellular decomposition. The problem addressed in this paper is the explicit computation of the graded group . We introduce some new invariants for immersions enlightening the Atiyah-H…
Let $\GG$ be a sub-Riemannian -step Carnot group of homogeneous dimension . In this paper, we shall prove several geometric inequalities concerning smooth hypersurfaces (i.e. codimension one submanifolds) immersed in $\GG$, endowed with the $\HH$-perimeter measure.
We present a compensated compactness theorem in Banach spaces established recently, whose formulation is originally motivated by the weak rigidity problem for isometric immersions of manifolds with lower regularity. As a corollary, a geometrically intrinsic div-curl lemma for tensor fields on Riemannian manifolds is ob…
