48 results for field of two elements

We prove that a ``bouillabaisse'' surface (translation surface which has two transverse parabolic elements) has totally real trace field. As a corollary, non trivial Veech groups which have no parabolic elements do exist. The proof follows Veech's viewpoint on Thurston's construction of pseudo-Anosov diffeomorphisms.

We define a "sutured topological quantum field theory", motivated by the study of sutured Floer homology of product 3-manifolds, and contact elements. We study a rich algebraic structure of suture elements in sutured TQFT, showing that it corresponds to contact elements in sutured Floer homology. We use this approach t…

We review the basic elements of the geometrical formalism for description of gauge fields and the theory of invariant connections, and their applications to the coset space dimensional reduction of Yang-Mills theories. We also discuss the problem of classification of principal fibre bundles, which is important for the …

We study bimodule quantum Riemannian geometries over the field F2\Bbb F_2 of two elements as the extreme case of a finite-field adaptation of noncommutative-geometric methods for physics. We classify all parallelisable such geometries for coordinate algebras up to vector space dimension n3n\le 3, finding a rich moduli …

In this work we study Berwald spacetimes and their vacuum dynamics, where the latter are based on a Finsler generalization of the Einstein's equations derived from an action on the unit tangent bundle. In particular, we consider a specific class of spacetimes which are non-flat generalizations of the very special relat…

This note shows that if two elements of equal trace (e.g., conjugate elements) generate an arithmetic two-bridge knot or link group, then the elements are parabolic. This includes the figure-eight knot and Whitehead link groups. Similarly, if two conjugate elements generate the trefoil knot group, then the elements are…

In 1998, R. Gompf defined a homotopy invariant θGθ_G of oriented 2-plane fields in 3-manifolds. This invariant is defined for oriented 2-plane fields ξξ in a closed oriented 3-manifold MM when the first Chern class c1(ξ)c_1(ξ) is a torsion element of H2(M;Z)H^2(M;\mathbb{Z}). In this article, we define an extension of the Go…
