48 results for exceptional holonomy

We show that the G2G_2-manifolds and certain Spin(7){\rm Spin}(7)-manifolds are endowed with natural Riemannian twistorial structures. Along the way, the exceptional holonomy representations are reviewed and other related facts are considered.

The exceptional holonomy groups are G2 in 7 dimensions, and Spin(7) in 8 dimensions. Riemannian manifolds with these holonomy groups are Ricci-flat. This is a survey paper on exceptional holonomy, in two parts. Part I introduces the exceptional holonomy groups, and explains constructions for compact 7- and 8-manifolds …

We give a construction of G2G_2 and Spin(7)Spin(7) instantons on exceptional holonomy manifolds constructed by Bryant and Salamon, by using an ansatz of spherical symmetry coming from the manifolds being the total spaces of rank-4 vector bundles. In the G2G_2 case, we show that, in the asymptotically conical model, the conn…

Metrics of exceptional holonomy are vacuum solutions to the Einstein equation. In this paper we describe manifolds with holonomy contained in Spin(7) preserved by a three-torus symmetry in terms of tri-symplectic geometry of four-manifolds. A list of possible holonomy groups contained the exceptional, non-compact Lie group G2\mathrm{G}_2^{*} was provided by Fino and Kath. The classification is due to the corresponding holonomy algebras and divided into Type I, II and III, depending on the dimension of the socle being 1,2 or 3, respectively. It was also sh…

We present three large classes of examples of conformal structures for which the equations for the Fefferman-Graham ambient metric to be Ricci-flat are linear PDEs, which we solve explicitly. These explicit solutions enable us to discuss the holonomy of the corresponding ambient metrics. Our examples include conformal …

For a conformal manifold, we describe a new relation between the ambient obstruction tensor of Fefferman and Graham and the holonomy of the normal conformal Cartan connection. This relation allows us to prove several results on the vanishing and the rank of the obstruction tensor, for example for conformal structures a…

The holonomy of the ambient metrics of Nurowski's conformal structures associated to generic real-analytic 2-plane fields on 5-manifolds is investigated. It is shown that the holonomy is always contained in the split real form G_2 of the exceptional Lie group, and is equal to G_2 for an open dense set of 2-plane fields…

Manifolds with exceptional holonomy play an important role in string theory, supergravity and M-theory.
