48 results for elliptic genera

In this paper, we construct for the first time the projective elliptic genera for a compact oriented manifold equipped with a projective complex vector bundle. Such projective elliptic genera are rational q-series that have topological definition and also have analytic interpretation via the fractional index theorem in…

result Rigidity of elliptic genera is proven for spin universal coverings but not for non-spin universal coverings.

We prove several vanishing theorems for a class of generalized elliptic genera on foliated manifolds, by using classical equivariant index theory. The main techniques are the use of the Jacobi theta-functions and the construction of a new class of elliptic operators associated to foliations.

In this paper, we construct for the first time, the Witten genus and elliptic genera on noncompact manifolds with a proper cocompact action by an almost connected Lie group and prove vanishing and rigidity results that generalise known results for compact group actions on compact manifolds. We also compute our genera f…

We compute the Chern-Simons transgressed forms of some modularly invariant characteristic forms, which are related to the elliptic genera. We study the modularity properties of these secondary characteristic forms and the relations among them. We also compute the Chern-Simons forms of some vector bundles over free loop…

New vanishing theorems for genera derived under almost nonnegative Ricci curvature.

result Vanishing theorems for Todd genus, A^\widehat{A}-genus, elliptic genera, Witten genus, and Euler characteristic number for Alexandrov spaces.

In this paper, we first prove a local family version of the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula, then we extend the famous Witten's rigidity Theorems to the family case. Several family vanishing theorems for elliptic genera are also proved.

Let MM be a SpinSpin-manifold with S1S^1-action and let σS1σ\in S^1 be of finite order. We show that the indices of certain twisted Dirac operators vanish if the action of σσ has sufficiently large fixed point codimension. These indices occur in the Fourier expansion of the elliptic genus of MM in one of its cusps. As …

We conjecture a formula for the virtual elliptic genera of moduli spaces of rank 2 sheaves on minimal surfaces SS of general type. We express our conjecture in terms of the Igusa cusp form χ10χ_{10} and Borcherds type lifts of three quasi-Jacobi forms which are all related to the Weierstrass elliptic function. We also …

We study global gravitational anomalies in type IIB string theory with nontrivial middle cohomology. This requires the study of the action of diffeomorphisms on this group. Several results and constructions, including some recent vanishing results via elliptic genera, make it possible to consider this problem. Along th…

String structures have played an important role in algebraic topology, via elliptic genera and elliptic cohomology, in differential geometry, via the study of higher geometric structures, and in physics, via partition functions. We extend the description of String structures from connected covers of the definite-signat…

For certain classes of knots we define geometric invariants called higher-order genera. Each of these invariants is a refinement of the slice genus of a knot.
