We prove that a free group F_2 admits a faithful discrete representation into Diff_{+}(I). We also prove that F_2 admits a faithful discrete representation into Homeo_{+}(I). Some properties of these representations have been studied. In the last section we raise several questions.

Discrete PU(1,1) representations of hyperelliptic groups are proven.
Complex hyperbolic triangle groups are discrete when certain conditions are met.
We give very flexible, concrete constructions of discrete and faithful epresentations of right-angled Artin groups into higher-rank Lie groups. Using the geometry of the associated symmetric spaces and the combinatorics of the groups, we find a general criterion for when discrete and faithful representations exist, and…

The paper identifies a component of representations mapping modular group elements to isometries with unique fixed points.
We construct discrete and faithful representations into the isometry group of a hyperbolic space of the fundamental groups of acute negatively curved even-sided polygons of finite groups.
This study finds a special class of representations that dominate others in a complex hyperbolic group.
Anderson and Canary have shown that if the algebraic limit of a sequence of discrete, faithful representations of a finitely generated group into PSL(2,C) does not contain parabolics, then it is also the sequence's geometric limit. We construct examples that demonstrate the failure of this theorem for certain sequences…
Let be a cusped hyperbolic -manifold, e.g. a knot complement. Thurston showed that the space of deformations of its fundamental group in (up to conjugation) is of complex dimension the number of cusps near the hyperbolic representation. It seems natural to ask whether some …
Holomorphic curves found in compact quotients of SL(2,C).
Let be a lattice in a connected semisimple Lie group with trivial center and no compact factors. We introduce a volume invariant for representations of into , which generalizes the volume invariant for representations of uniform lattices introduced by Goldman. Then, we show that the maximality of this vo…
In this paper, we give a complete criterion for a discrete faithful representation $ρ:F_n \ra \pslc$ to be primitive stable. This will answer Minsky's conjectures about geometric conditions on $\H^3/ρ(F_n)$ regarding the primitive stability of .

We prove that, for a hyperbolic two bridge knot, infinitely many Dehn fillings are rigid in . Here rigidity means that any discrete and faithful representation in is conjugate to the holonomy representation in . We also show local rigidity for almost all Dehn fillings.
Researchers found a new hyperbolic 3-orbifold using a Menger curve.
This classification is found by analyzing the action of a normal subgroup of as hyperbolic isometries. This paper gives an example of an unfaithful specialization of the Burau representation on that is faithful when restricted to , as well as examples of unfaithful specializations of .
Let be a compact, connected, orientable surface of genus . We ask for a parametrization of the discrete, faithful, totally loxodromic representations in the deformation space . We show that such a representation, under some hypothesis, can be determined …
We prove a nonexistence theorem for product type manifolds. In particular we show that the 4-manifold does not admit any locally conformally flat metric arising from discrete and faithful representations for and
We prove a volume-rigidity theorem for fuchsian representations of fundamental groups of hyperbolic k-manifolds into Isom(H^n). Namely, we show that if M is a complete hyperbolic k-manifold with finite volume, then the volume of any representation of its fundamental group into Isom(H^n), 3 <= k <= n, is less than the v…
We explicitly describe the Teichmuller space TH_n of hyperelliptic surfaces in terms of natural and effective coordinates as the space of certain (2n-6)-tuples of distinct points on the ideal boundary of the Poincare disc. We essentially use the concept of a simple earthquake which is a particular case of a Fenchel-Nie…
Let M be a hyperbolizable, nontrivial compression body without toroidal boundary components. In this paper, we characterize which discrete and faithful representations of the fundamental group of M into PSL(2,C) are separable-stable. The set of separable-stable representations forms a domain of discontinuity for the ac…
Proves Burau representation is faithful for 4-strand braids.
We present computational data and heuristic arguments which suggest that given a hyperbolic knot the volume correlates with its determinant, the Mahler measure of its Alexander polynomial and the Mahler measure of the twisted Alexander polynomial corresponding to the discrete and faithful SL(2,C)-representation.

Let denote the Euler class on the space of representations of the fundamental group of the closed surface of genus . Goldman showed that the connected components of are precisely the inverse images , for , and t…
We study complex hyperbolic disc bundles over closed orientable surfaces that arise from discrete and faithful representations H_n->PU(2,1), where H_n is the fundamental group of the orbifold S^2(2,...,2) and thus contains a surface group as a subgroup of index 2 or 4. The results obtained provide the first complex hyp…
Uniformizes CR structure on a specific 3-manifold.
In this article we introduce order preserving representations of fundamental groups of surfaces into Lie groups with bi-invariant orders. By relating order preserving representations to weakly maximal representations, introduced in arXiv:1305.2620, we show that order preserving representations into Lie groups of Hermit…
Researchers mapped the moduli space of a specific group in 3D complex hyperbolic geometry.
Carrier graphs were first introduced for closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds by White. In this paper, we first generalize this definition to carrier graphs for representations of a rank two free group into the isometry group of hyperbolic three space. Then we prove the existence and the finiteness of minimal carrier graphs f…
New representations defined for groups and graphs, with applications to stable representations.
New polynomial connects knot genus to 3-manifold geometry.
The Burau representation of 3-strand braid group modulo p is determined and shown to be faithful for small p.
We prove that a representation from the fundamental group of a closed surface of negative Euler characteristic with values in the isometry group of a Riemannian manifold of sectional curvature bounded by -1 can be dominated by a Fuchsian representation. Moreover, we prove that the domination can be made strict, unless …
We prove asymptotic faithfulness for the quantum mapping class group representation. This provides the first example of asymptotic faithfulness lying outside of the family. The methods used are generalized from the proof of asymptotic faithfulness for skein mapping class group represent…
We prove that a dense subgroup of is not elementary amenable. We also show that the topological group does not satisfy the Stability of the Generators Property, moreover, any finitely generated subgroup of admits a faithful discrete representation …
The main goal of this paper is to compute $μ(\g)$ and $μ_{nil}(\g)$ for each nilpotent Lie algebra $\g$ of dimension 6 over a field of characteristic zero $\k$. Here $μ(\g)$ and $μ_{nil}(\g)$ is the minimal dimension of a faithful representation of $\g$ and the minimal dimension of a faithful nilrepresentation of $\g$,…
We analyze two braid group representations and their reductions modulo p.
The Burau representation is a natural action of the braid group B_n on the free Z[t,t^{-1}]-module of rank n-1. It is a longstanding open problem to determine for which values of n this representation is faithful. It is known to be faithful for n=3. Moody has shown that it is not faithful for n>8 and Long and Paton imp…
We prove that any rigid representation of in with Euler number at least is necessarily semi-conjugate to a discrete, faithful representation into . Combined with earlier work of Matsumoto, this precisely characterizes Fuchsian actions by a topological rig…
We show the set of faithful representations of a closed orientable hyperbolic surface group is dense in both irreducible components of the PSL(2,K) representation variety, where K is the field of real or complex numbers, answering a question of W. Goldman. We also prove the existence of faithful representations into PU…
Odd-dimensional SL(n,Q) contains dense surface subgroups.
Method produces faithful representations of Garside groups and torus knot groups.
In 1990, Hitchin's proved a component of the space of representations of a surface group in SL(n,R) is homeomorphic to a ball. For n=2,3 this component has been identified with the holonomies of geometric structures (hyperbolic for n=2, or real projective for n=3). In the preprint "Anosov flows, Surface groups and Curv…
The Lawrence representation is a family of homological representation of the braid group , which specializes to the reduced Burau and the Lawrence-Krammer representation when is 1 and 2. In this article we show that the Lawrence representation is faithful for .
