We show that all non-trivial continuous endomorphisms of the circle group are topologically mixing. Lastly, we prove that any continuous endomorphism on an abelian polish se…

Asymptotic property C was introduced by Dranishnikov to study spaces with infinite asymptotic dimension. We show that asymptotic property C is preserved by infinite products. We also show that countable restricted direct products of countable groups with finite asymptotic dimension have asymptotic property C. Then we i…

We show that coarse property C is preserved by finite coarse direct products. We also show that the coarse analog of Dydak's countable asymptotic dimension is equivalent to the coarse version of straight finite decomposition complexity and is therefore preserved by direct products.

We classify the 5-dimensional homogeneous geometries in the sense of Thurston. The present paper (part 3 of 3) classifies those in which the linear isotropy representation is nontrivial but reducible. Most of the resulting geometries are products. Some interesting examples include a countably infinite family of inequiv…

We give a complete characterization of countable primitive groups in several settings including linear groups, subgroups of mapping class groups, groups acting minimally on trees and convergence groups. The group of C1\mathcal C^1-diffeomorphisms of any sparse Cantor subset of a manifold is countable and discrete (possibly trivial). Thompson's groups come out of this construction when we consider central ternary Cantor subsets of an interval. Brin's higher dimensional generalizations nVnV of Thompson's group VV arise…

The paper proves no exotic actions of diffeomorphism groups on 1-manifolds.

problem The study tackles the exotic actions of diffeomorphism groups on 1-dimensional manifolds.
method The approach involves showing any nontrivial homomorphism has a standard form, with countably many embeddings and conjugate actions.
result The groups Diff^r_c(M) have no countable index subgroups, solving a conjecture of Matsumoto.

In this paper, we introduce the concept of the independence graph of a directed 2-complex. We show that the class of diagram groups is closed under graph products over independence graphs of rooted 2-trees. This allows us to show that a diagram group containing all countable diagram groups is a semi-direct product of a…

We present an approach to cohomological dimension theory based on infinite symmetric products and on the general theory of dimension called the extension dimension. The notion of the extension dimension $\ExD(X)$ was introduced by A.N.Dranishnikov \cite {D5_5} in the context of compact spaces and CW complexes. This pa…

A graph product kernel means the kernel of the natural surjection from a graph product to the corresponding direct product. We prove that a graph product kernel of countable groups is special, and a graph product of finite or cyclic groups is virtually cocompact special in the sense of Haglund and Wise. The proof of th…

We show that the mapping class group of a compact orientable surface with higher complexity has the following extreme rigidity in the sense of measure equivalence: if the mapping class group is measure equivalent to a discrete group, then they are commensurable up to finite kernel. Moreover, we describe all lattice emb…
