A correspondence is studied by H. Matsuda between front projections of Legendrian links in the standard contact structure for 3-space and rectangular diagrams. In this paper, we introduce braided rectangular diagrams, and study a relationship with Legendrian links in the standard contact structure for 3-space. We show …

Study on parabolic points and cylindrical surfaces in Euclidean 3-space.
These notes were prepared to supplement the talk that I gave on Feb 19, 2004, at the First East Asian School of Knots and Related Topics, Seoul, South Korea. In this article I review aspects of the interconnections between braids, knots and contact structures on Euclidean 3-space. I discuss my recent work with William …
Building on the work of and answering a question by Michael Harrison, we show that any contact structure on Euclidean 3-space induced by a line fibration is diffeomorphic to the standard contact structure.
We classify transverse Hopf links in the standard contact 3-space up to transverse isotopy in terms of their components' self-linking number.

Abstract: Study of surface transitions and IDE inflections via contact geometry.
We characterize which Legendrian -plat knots in the standard contact -space have exact orientable Lagrangian fillings. As a corollary, we show that the underlying smooth knot types of fillable Legendrian -plats are positive.
Contact homology for Legendrian submanifolds in standard contact -space is rigorously defined using moduli spaces of holomorphic disks with Lagrangian boundary conditions in complex -space. It provides new invariants of Legendrian isotopy. Using these invariants the theory of Legendrian isotopy is shown to b…
Study the geometry of lightlike loci on mixed type surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space.
A taut contact sphere on a 3-manifold is a linear 2-sphere of contact forms, all defining the same volume form. In the present paper we completely determine the moduli of taut contact spheres on compact left-quotients of SU(2) (the only closed manifolds admitting such structures). We also show that the moduli space of …
We analyze transverse doubled knots in the standard contact 3-space by using spanned clasp disks. As applications, we will estimate their self-linking number and furthermore we will show that in many cases, transverse twist knots with the maximal self-linking number are unique up to transverse isotopy.
In this article, we consider the maximal value of the Thurston--Bennequin invariant of Legendrian knots which topologically represent a fixed knot type in the standard contact 3-space and we prove a formula of the value under the connected sum operation of knots.
Let E be a circle bundle over a Riemann surface that supports a contact structure transverse to the fibers. This paper presents a combinatorial definition of a differential graded algebra (DGA) that is an invariant of Legendrian knots in E. The invariant generalizes Chekanov's combinatorial DGA invariant of Legendrian …
We prove that if a contact 3-manifold admits an open book decomposition of genus 0, a certain intersection pattern cannot appear in the homology of any of its minimal symplectic fillings, and moreover, fillings cannot contain symplectic surfaces of positive genus. Applying these obstructions to canonical contact struct…
Alexander polynomial derived from knot contact homology and Floer strips.
It is well-known that the unit cotangent bundle of any Riemannian manifold has a canonical contact structure. A surface in a Riemannian 3-manifold is called a (wave) front if it is the projection of a Legendrian immersion into the unit cotangent bundle. We shall give easily-computable criteria for a singular point on a…
Proves existence of elliptic Reeb orbit on real projective 3-space using ECH.
We establish a long exact sequence for Legendrian submanifolds L in P x R, where P is an exact symplectic manifold, which admit a Hamiltonian isotopy that displaces the projection of L off of itself. In this sequence, the singular homology H_* maps to linearized contact cohomology CH^* which maps to linearized contact …
A closed braid naturally gives rise to a transverse link in the standard contact 3-space. We study the effect of the dynamical properties of the braid monodromy, such as right-veering, on the contact-topological properties of the transverse link and its transverse invariants in knot Floer and Khovanov homologies. In pa…

Investigates the vertex curve of smooth surfaces in 3D space, connecting geometry and image analysis.
By use of a variety of techniques (most based on constructions of quasipositive knots and links, some old and others new), many smooth 3-manifolds are realized as transverse intersections of complex surfaces in complex 3-space with strictly pseudoconvex 5-spheres. These manifolds not only inherit interesting intrinsic …
Examples are given of prime Legendrian knots in the standard contact 3-space that have arbitrarily many distinct Chekanov polynomials, refuting a conjecture of Lenny Ng. These are constructed using a new `Legendrian tangle replacement' technique. This technique is then used to show that the phenomenon of multiple Cheka…
A transverse knot is a knot that is transverse to the planes of the standard contact structure on real 3-space. In this paper we prove the Markov Theorem for transverse braids, which states that two transverse closed braids that are isotopic as transverse knots are also isotopic as transverse braids. The methods of the…
Unified framework for Alexandrov 3-spaces, extending manifold results.
We show existence of constant mean curvature 1 surfaces in both hyperbolic 3-space and de Sitter 3-space with two complete embedded ends and any positive genus up to genus twenty. We also find another such family of surfaces in de Sitter 3-space, but with a different non-embedded end behavior.
In this paper, we firstly introduce the group of similarity transformations in the Minkowski-3 space. We describe differential- geometric invariants of a non-lightlike curve according to the group of similarity transformations of the Minkowski 3-space. We show extension of fundamental theorem for non-lightlike curves u…
We make observations about constant mean curvature surfaces in Euclidean 3-space and their dual surfaces, and the resulting pairs of surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space under the Lawson correspondence.
In the symplectization of standard contact -space, , it is known that an orientable Lagrangian cobordism between a Legendrian knot and itself, also known as an orientable Lagrangian endocobordism for the Legendrian knot, must have genus . We show that any Legendrian knot has a non-or…
It is shown that timelike surfaces of constant mean curvature 1 in anti-de Sitter 3-space can be constructed from a pair of Lorentz holomorphic and Lorentz antiholomorphic null curves in PSL(2,R) via Bryant type representation formulae. These formulae are used to investigate an explicit one-to-one correspondence, the s…

We construct triply periodic zero mean curvature surfaces of mixed type in the Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space, with the same topology as the triply periodic minimal surfaces in the Euclidean 3-space, called Schwarz rPD surfaces.
We construct embedded triply periodic zero mean curvature surfaces of mixed type in the Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space with the same topology as the Schwarz D surface in the Euclidean 3-space.

Study on minimal surfaces in a 3D space with 2m-norm.
We study the symplectic geometry of the moduli space of closed n-gons with fixed side-lengths in hyperbolic 3-space. We prove that these moduli spaces have a symplectic structure coming from Poisson Lie theory. We construct completely integrable systems on these moduli spaces by bending n-gons along their diagonals. Th…

Study bifurcations of curves on surfaces in Minkowski 3-space.
We give a conformal representation in terms of meromorphic data for a certain class of spacelike surfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowski 4-space L^4 whose mean curvature vector is either lightlike or zero at each point. This representation extends simultaneously the Weierstrass representation for minimal surfaces in Euclidea…
We usually think of 2-dimensional manifolds as surfaces embedded in Euclidean 3-space. Since humans cannot visualise Euclidean spaces of higher dimensions, it appears to be impossible to give pictorial representations of higher-dimensional manifolds. However, one can in fact encode the topology of a surface in a 1-dime…
By a fixed continuous map from a -space to itself, a knot in the -space may be mapped to another knot in the -space. We analyze possible knot types of them. Then we map a knot repeatedly by a fixed continuous map and analyze possible infinite sequences of knot types.
