48 results for complex spin structures

We show how the space of complex spin structures of a closed oriented three-manifold embeds naturally into a space of quadratic functions associated to its linking pairing. Besides, we extend the Goussarov-Habiro theory of finite type invariants to the realm of compact oriented three-manifolds equipped with a complex s…

We show that a homotopy equivalence between manifolds induces a correspondence between their spin^c-structures, even in the presence of 2-torsion. This is proved by generalizing spin^c-structures to Poincare complexes. A procedure is given for explicitly computing the correspondence under reasonable hypotheses.

Let (M,g)(M,g) be a pseudo-Riemannian manifold of signature (p,q)(p,q). We compute the obstruction for a vector bundle SS over (M,g)(M,g) to admit a Dirac operator whose principal symbol induces on SS the structure of a bundle of irreducible real Clifford modules of complex type, that is, a real spinor bundle of irreducible c…

A beautiful solution to the problem of isometric immersions in Rn\mathbb{R}^n using spinors was found by Bayard, Lawn and Roth. However to use spinors one must assume that the manifold carries a $\mbox{Spin}$-structure and, especially for complex manifolds where is more natural to consider $\mbox{Spin}^{\mathbb{C}}$-st…

We find all m-spin structures on Klein surfaces of genus larger than one. An m-spin structure on a Riemann surface P is a complex line bundle on P whose m-th tensor power is the cotangent bundle of P. A Klein surface can be described by a pair (P,tau), where P is a Riemann surface and tau is an anti-holomorphic involut…

We show that many spin 6-manifolds have the homotopy type but not the homeomorphism type of a Kaehler manifold. Moreover, for given Betti numbers, there are only finitely many deformation types and hence topological types of smooth complex projectve spin threefolds of general type. For a Spin(9)-structure on a Riemannian manifold M^16 we write explicitly the matrix psi of its Kähler 2-forms and the canonical 8-form Phi. We then prove that Phi coincides up to a constant with the fourth coefficient of the characteristic polynomial of psi. This is inspired by lower dimensional situations, related to…

We define spin-c prequantization of a symplectic manifold to be a spin-c structure and a connection which are compatible with the symplectic form. We describe the cutting of an S^1-equivariant spin-c prequantization. The cutting process involves a choice of a spin-c prequantization for the complex plane. We prove that …

We define a `Higgs field' for a four-dimensional spinc^c-manifold to be a smooth section of its positive half-spinor bundle, transverse to the zero section, and defined only up to a positive functional factor.
