It is shown that the existence of an -compatible Einstein metric on a compact symplectic manifold imposes certain restrictions on the symplectic Chern numbers. Examples of symplectic manifolds which do not satisfy these restrictions are given. The results offer partial support to a conjecture of Goldberg.

Let be a positive injective operator in a Hilbert space (\h, <,>), and denote by [,] the inner product defined by A: [f,g]=<Af,g>. A closed subspace $\s \subset \h$ is called A-compatible if there exists a closed complement for $\s$, which is orthogonal to $\s$ with respect to the inner product [,]. Equivalently, i…
Derdzinski and Shen's theorem on the restrictions posed by a Codazzi tensor on the Riemann tensor holds more generally when a Riemann-compatible tensor exists. Several properties are shown to remain valid in this broader setting. Riemann compatibility is equivalent to the Bianchi identity of the new "Codazzi deviation …

Embeds Lorentzian manifolds in \(\mathbb{R}^{n+2}\) with SO(2,n) compatibility.
We study compatible toric Sasaki metrics with constant scalar curvature on co-oriented compact toric contact manifolds of Reeb type of dimension at least 5. These metrics come in rays of transversal homothety due to the possible rescaling of the Reeb vector fields. We prove that there exist Reeb vector fields for which…
For a compact 3-manifold which is a circle bundle over a compact Riemann surface with even Euler number , and with a Riemannian metric compatible with the bundle projection, there exists a compact minimal surface in . is embedded and is a section of the restriction of the bundle to the compleme…
Oracle inequalities and variable selection properties for the Lasso in linear models have been established under a variety of different assumptions on the design matrix. We show in this paper how the different conditions and concepts relate to each other. The restricted eigenvalue condition (Bickel et al., 2009) or the…

New equations reveal how cylinder power in progressive lenses depends on geodesic curvature.
In this paper, we prove that if the area functional of a surface in a symplectic manifold has a critical point or has a compatible stable point in the same cohomology class, then it must be -holomorphic. Inspired by a classical result of Lawson-Simons, we show how various restrictions of the s…
The paper shows how data and algorithm interactions affect overparameterized linear regression generalization.
This paper provides a geometric description for Lie--Hamilton systems on with locally transitive Vessiot--Guldberg Lie algebras through two types of geometric models. The first one is the restriction of a class of Lie--Hamilton systems on the dual of a Lie algebra to even-dimensional symplectic leaves re…
This is an account of the theory of JSJ decompositions of finitely generated groups, as developed in the last twenty years or so. We give a simple general definition of JSJ decompositions (or rather of their Bass-Serre trees), as maximal universally elliptic trees. In general, there is no preferred JSJ decomposition, a…
To a branched cover f between orientable surfaces one can associate a certain branch datum D(f), that encodes the combinatorics of the cover. This D(f) satisfies a compatibility condition called the Riemann-Hurwitz relation. The old but still partly unsolved Hurwitz problem asks whether for a given abstract compatible …
We investigate the high-dimensional regression problem using adjacency matrices of unbalanced expander graphs. In this frame, we prove that the -prediction error and the -risk of the lasso and the Dantzig selector are optimal up to an explicit multiplicative constant. Thus we can estimate a high-dim…
In the paper we consider pseudo bihermitian structures - a pair of complex structures compatible with a pseudo Riemannian metric. As in the positive definite case we establish its relations with generalized (pseudo) Kaehler geometry and holomorphic Poisson structures. We provide a list of compact complex surfaces which…
Let M be a compact Sasakian manifold. We show that M admits a CR-embedding into a Sasakian manifold diffeomorphic to a sphere, and this embedding is compatible with the respective Reeb fields. We argue that a stronger embedding theorem cannot be obtained. We use an extension theorem for Kaehler geometry: given a compac…

Suppose that S is a surface with boundary and that g and h are diffeomorphisms of S which restrict to the identity on the boundary. Let Y_g, Y_h, and Y_{hg} be the three-manifolds with open book decompositions given by (S,g), (S,h), and (S,hg), respectively. We show that the Ozsvath-Szabo contact invariant is natural u…

A quandle is a set that has a binary operation satisfying three conditions corresponding to the Reidemeister moves. Homology theories of quandles have been developed in a way similar to group homology, and have been applied to knots and knotted surfaces. In this paper, a homology theory is defined that unifies group an…
We show that any compact symplectic manifold (W,ω) with boundary embeds as a domain into a closed symplectic manifold, provided that there exists a contact plane ξon dW which is weakly compatible with omega, i.e. the restriction ω|ξdoes not vanish and the contact orientation of dW and its orientation as the boundary of…

Som-Raychaudhuri spacetime is a stationary cylindrical symmetric solution of Einstein field equation corresponding to a charged dust distribution in rigid rotation. The main object of the present paper is to investigate the curvature restricted geometric structures admitting by the Som-Raychaudhuri spacetime and it is …
New method bounds causal effects using local consistency of marginals.
We introduce a new approach for computing curvature of sub-Riemannian manifolds. Curvature is here meant as symplectic invariants of Jacobi curves of geodesics, as introduced by Zelenko and Li. We describe how they can be expressed using a compatible affine connection and induced tensors, without any restriction on our…

In this paper we study a Riemanian metric on the tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold which generalizes Sasaki metric and Cheeger Gromoll metric and a compatible almost complex structure which together with the metric confers to a structure of locally conformal almost Kählerian manifold. This is th…

Notions of compatible and almost compatible pseudo-Riemannian metrics, which are motivated by the theory of compatible (local and nonlocal) Poisson structures of hydrodynamic type and generalize the notion of flat pencil of metrics, are introduced and studied.
The Goldberg-Sachs theorem is generalized for all four-dimensional manifolds endowed with torsion-free connection compatible with the metric, the treatment includes all signatures as well as complex manifolds. It is shown that when the Weyl tensor is algebraically special severe geometric restrictions are imposed. In p…
New method recovers causal order from dependent data.
We make a study of Poisson structures of T*M which are graded structures when restricted to the fiberwise polynomial algebra, and give examples. A class of more general graded bivector fields which induce a given Poisson structure w on the base manifold M is constructed. In particular, the horizontal lifting of a Poiss…
Let (M,ω) be a symplectic manifold, and Sigma a compact Riemann surface. We define a 2-form on the space of immersed symplectic surfaces in M, and show that the form is closed and non-degenerate, up to reparametrizations. Then we give conditions on a compatible almost complex structure J on (M,ω) that ensure that the r…

Cartan-Lie algebroids, i.e. Lie algebroids equipped with a compatible connection, permit the definition of an adjoint representation, on the fiber as well as on the tangent of the base. We characterise the integrability of any co-CR quaternionic structure in terms of the curvature and a generalized torsion of the connection. Also, we apply this result to obtain, for example, the following. (1) New co-CR quaternionic structures built on vector bundles over a quaternionic manifold M, whose twistor space…
We compute the Heegaard Floer homology of any rational homology 3-sphere with an open book decomposition of the form (T,φ), where T is a genus one surface with one boundary component. In addition, we compute the Heegaard Floer homology of any T^2-bundle over S^1 with first Betti number equal to one, and we compare our …
