Recent years have seen noteworthy progress in the mathematical formulation of quantum field theory and perturbative string theory. We give a brief survey of these developments. It serves as an introduction to the more detailed collection "Mathematical Foundations of Quantum Field Theory and Perturbative String Theory".

Given a finite collection of vector fields on a manifold which span the tangent space at every point, we consider the question of when there is locally a coordinate system in which these vector fields have a higher level of smoothness. For example, when is there a coordinate system in which the vector field…
A new method for selecting high quality itemsets from a large collection.
For a smooth manifold , possibly with boundary and corners, and a Lie group , we consider a suitable description of gauge fields in terms of parallel transport, as groupoid homomorphisms from a certain path groupoid in to . Using a cotriangulation of , and collections of finite-dimensional…
Current economic theories miss most of economic dynamics.
This book provides a detailed introduction to linear wave equations on Lorentzian manifolds (for vector-bundle valued fields). After a collection of preliminary material in the first chapter one finds in the second chapter the construction of local fundamental solutions together with their Hadamard expansion. The third…

Improved disability insurance model with collective health claims.
Understanding biological network dynamics is a fundamental issue in various scientific and engineering fields. Network theory is capable of revealing the relationship between elements and their propagation; however, for complex collective motions, the network properties often transiently and complexly change. A fundame…
The Temperley-Lieb algebra is a fundamental component of SU(2) topological quantum field theories. We construct chain complexes corresponding to minimal idempotents in the Temperley-Lieb algebra. Our results apply to the framework which determines Khovanov homology. Consequences of our work include semi-orthogonal deco…
String theory still remains one of the promising candidates for a unification of the theory of gravity and quantum field theory. One of its essential parts is relativistic description of moving multi-dimensional objects called membranes (or p-branes) in a curved spacetime. On the classical field theory level, they are …
Given a finite collection of complex vector fields on a manifold such that they and their complex conjugates span the complexified tangent space at every point, the classical Newlander-Nirenberg theorem gives conditions on the vector fields so that there is a complex structure on with respect to whi…

A looming question that must be solved before robotic plant phenotyping capabilities can have significant impact to crop improvement programs is scalability. High Throughput Phenotyping (HTP) uses robotic technologies to analyze crops in order to determine species with favorable traits, however, the current practices r…
In recent years there has been a closer interrelationship between several scientific areas trying to obtain a more realistic and rich explanation of the natural and social phenomena. Among these it should be emphasized the increasing interrelationship between physics and financial theory. In this field the analysis of …

A brief review on the progress made in the study of Chern-Simons gauge theory since its relation to knot theory was discovered ten years ago is presented. Emphasis is made on the analysis of the perturbative study of the theory and its connection to the theory of Vassiliev invariants. It is described how the study of t…
This workshop about triangulations of manifolds in computational geometry and topology was held at the 2014 CG-Week in Kyoto, Japan. It focussed on computational and combinatorial questions regarding triangulations, with the goal of bringing together researchers working on various aspects of triangulations and of foste…
The paper translates economic models into a field formalism to study capital accumulation and its fluctuations.
We study simultaneous price drops of real stocks and show that for high drop thresholds they follow a power-law distribution. To reproduce these collective downturns, we propose a minimal self-organized model of cascade spreading based on a probabilistic response of the system elements to stress conditions. This model …

Quantum field theory uses Lorentzian bordisms to describe time evolution.
We introduce and study covariance fields of distributions on a Riemannian manifold. At each point on the manifold, covariance is defined to be a symmetric and positive definite (2,0)-tensor. Its product with the metric tensor specifies a linear operator on the respected tangent space. Collectively, these operators form…

While market is a social field where information flows over the interacting agents, there have been not so many methods to observe the spreading information in the prices comprising the market. By incorporating the entropy transfer in information theory in its relation to the Granger causality, the paper proposes a tre…

In this short survey article we collect the current state of the art in the nascent field of \textit{quantum enhancements}, a type of knot invariant defined by collecting values of quantum invariants of knots with colorings by various algebraic objects over the set of such colorings. It is a classic result that the geometry of the total space of a principal bundle with reference to the action of the bundle's structure group is codified in the bundle's operation, a collection of derivations comprising the de Rham differential and the contraction and Lie derivatives of all vertical vector fields and …
After a review of exotic statistics for point particles in 3d BF theory, and especially 3d quantum gravity, we show that string-like defects in 4d BF theory obey exotic statistics governed by the 'loop braid group'. This group has a set of generators that switch two strings just as one would normally switch point parti…
There is an interpretation of open string field theory in algebraic topology. An interpretation of closed string field theory can be deduced from this open string theory to obtain as well the interpretation of open and closed string field theory combined.
The geometry of the total space of a principal bundle with regard to the action of the bundle's structure group is elegantly described by the bundle's operation, a collection of derivations consisting of the de Rham differential and the contraction and Lie derivatives of all vertical vector fields and satisfying the si…
