23 results for breathers

As an application of his entropy formula, Perelman proved that every compact shrinking breather is a shrinking gradient Ricci soliton. We give a proof for the complete noncompact case by using Perelman's L\mathcal{L}-geometry. Our proof follows the argument in Lu and Zheng of constructing an ancient solution, and remo…

We give two new proofs of Perelman's theorem that shrinking breathers of Ricci flow on closed manifolds are gradient Ricci solitons, using the fact that the singularity models of type I solutions are shrinking gradient Ricci solitons and the fact that non-collapsed type I ancient solutions have rescaled limits being sh…

Suppose MM is a compact n-dimensional manifold, n2n\ge 2, with a metric gij(x,t)g_{ij}(x,t) that evolves by the Ricci flow tgij=2Rij\partial_tg_{ij}=-2R_{ij} in M×(0,T)M\times (0,T). We will give a simple proof of a recent result of Perelman on the non-existence of shrinking breather without using the logarithmic Sobolev inequality.

Under suitable conditions near infinity and assuming boundedness of curvature tensor, we prove a no breathers theorem in the spirit of Ivey-Perelman for some noncompact Ricci flows. These include Ricci flows on asymptotically flat (AF) manifolds with positive scalar curvature. Since the method for the compact case face…

We explain how to apply techniques from integrable systems to construct 2k2k-soliton homoclinic wave maps from the periodic Minkowski space S1×R1S^1\times R^1 to a compact Lie group, and more generally to a compact symmetric space. We give a correspondence between solutions of the -1 flow equation associated to a compact …

In this paper we define the torsion flow, a CR analogue of the Ricci flow. For homogeneous CR manifolds we give explicit solutions to the torsion flow illustrating various kinds of behavior. We also derive monotonicity formulas for CR entropy functionals. As an application, we classify torsion breathers.

We study the Ricci flow on Riemannian groupoids. We assume that these groupoids are closed and that the space of orbits is compact and connected. We prove the short time existence and uniqueness of the Ricci flow on these groupoids. We also define a F-functional and derive the corresponding results for steady breathers…

In this paper, the author discusses the eigenvalues and entropies under the harmonic-Ricci flow, which is the Ricci flow coupled with the harmonic map flow. We give an alternative proof of results for compact steady and expanding harmonic-Ricci breathers. In the second part, we derive some monotonicity formulas for eig…

We consider the evolution of the asymptotically hyperbolic mass under the curvature-normalized Ricci flow of asymptotically hyperbolic, conformally compactifiable manifolds. In contrast to asymptotically flat manifolds, for which ADM mass is constant during Ricci flow, we show that the mass of an asymptotically hyperbo…

We investigate a new geometric flow which consists of a coupled system of the Ricci flow on a closed manifold M with the harmonic map flow of a map phi from M to some closed target manifold N with a (possibly time-dependent) positive coupling constant alpha. This system can be interpreted as the gradient flow of an ene…

We construct a local action of the group of rational maps from S2S^2 to GL(n,C)GL(n,C) on local solutions of flows of the ZS-AKNS sl(n,C)sl(n,C)-hierarchy. We show that the actions of simple elements (linear fractional transformations) give local Bäcklund transformations, and we derive a permutability formula from different fact…
