We study the algebraic structures of the virtual singular braid monoid, , and the virtual singular pure braid monoid, . The monoid is the splittable extension of by the symmetric group . We also construct a representation of .
The paper studies submonoids of singular twisted virtual braids and their properties.
Garside's results and the existense of the greedy normal form for braids are shown to be true for the singular braid monoid. An analogue of the presentation of J. S. Birman, K. H. Ko and S. J. Lee for the braid group is also obtained for this monoid.
Inverse braid monoid describes a structure on braids where the number of strings is not fixed. So, some strings of initial may be deleted. In the paper we show that many properties and objects based on braid groups may be extended to the inverse braid monoids. Namely we prove an inclusion into a monoid of partial m…
The surface singular braid monoid corresponds to marked graph diagrams of knotted surfaces in braid form. In a quest to resolve linearity problem for this monoid, we will show that if it is defined on at least two or at least three strands, then its two or respectively three dimensional representations are not faithful…
Virtual singular braids are generalizations of singular braids and virtual braids. We define the virtual singular braid monoid via generators and relations, and prove Alexander- and Markov-type theorems for virtual singular links. We also show that the virtual singular braid monoid has another presentation with fewer g…
We give presentations, in terms of generators and relations, for the monoids of singular braids on closed surfaces. The proof of the validity of these presentations can also be applied to verify, in a new way, the presentations given by Birman for the monoids of Singular Artin braids.
In this paper we show that the singular braid monoid of an orientable surface can be embedded in a group. The proof is purely topological, making no use of the monoid presentation.
This paper proposes for every , linear time reductions of the word and conjugacy problems on the braid groups to the corresponding problems on the braid monoids and moreover only using positive words representations.
We show that a certain linear representation of the singular braid monoid on three strands is faithful. Furthermore we will give a second - group theoretically motivated - solution to the word problem in this monoid.
Study on singular twisted links and virtual braids, extending knot theory concepts.
We present a new procedure to determine the growth function of a homogeneous Garside monoid, with respect to the finite generating set formed by the atoms. In particular, we present a formula for the growth function of each Artin--Tits monoid of spherical type (hence of each braid monoid) with respect to the standard g…
The paper defines biquandles for groups and constructs a homomorphism.
We show that the map obtained by viewing a geometric (ie. representative) braid as a string link induces an isomorphism of the n-strand braid group onto the group of units of the n-strand string link monoid.
We study the rational permutation braids, that is the elements of an Artin-Tits group of spherical type which can be written where and are prefixes of the Garside element of the braid monoid. We give a geometric characterization of these braids in type and and then show that in spherical …
We give a solution to the word problem for the singular braid monoid SB_n. The complexity of the algorithm is quadratic in the product of the word length and the number of the singular generators in the word. Furthermore we algebraically reprove a result of Fenn, Keyman and Rourke that the monoid embeds into a group an…
Developed algebraic theory of bonded braids, proving Markov theorem.
In this paper we discuss algebraic, combinatorial and topological properties of singular virtual braids. On the algebraic side we state the relations between classical and virtual singular objects, in addition we discuss a Birman-like conjecture for the virtual case. On the topological and combinatorial side, we prove …
In the paper we give a survey of rather new notions and results which generalize classical ones in the theory of braids. Among such notions are various inverse monoids of partial braids. We also observe presentations different from standard Artin presentation for generalizations of braids. Namely, we consider presentat…

New monoids tied to symmetric group and Jones/Brauer monoids discovered.
New Garside structures found for torus knot groups and related braid groups.
We introduce a monoid corresponding to knotted surfaces in four space, from its hyperbolic splitting represented by marked diagram in braid like form. It has four types of generators: two standard braid generators and two of singular type. Then we state relations on words that follows from topological Yoshikawa moves. …
We generalize presentations of the fundamental group of discriminant complements and arrive at a class of presentations associated naturally with words in the free monoid of the alphabet . Our study addresses invariance properties of these presentations and the presented groups under various operatio…
Tied links and the tied braid monoid were introduced recently by the authors and used to define new invariants for classical links. Here, we give a version purely algebraic-combinatoric of tied links. With this new version we prove that the tied braid monoid has a decomposition like a semi--direct group product. By usi…
In this paper we study the growth rates of Artin monoids and we show that 4 is a universal upper bound. We also show that the generating functions of the associated right-angled Artin monoids are given by families of Chebyshev polynomials. Applications to Artin groups and positive braids are given.
Extending braid group representations to singular braid monoids and groups.
We give a monoidal presentation of Coxeter and braid 2-groups, in terms of decorated planar graphs. This presentation extends the Coxeter presentation. We deduce a simple criterion for a Coxeter group or braid group to act on a category.
Let B_n be the Artin braid group on n strings with standard generators sigma_1, ..., sigma_{n-1}, and let SB_n be the singular braid monoid with generators sigma_1^{+-1}, ..., sigma_{n-1}^{+-1}, tau_1, ..., tau_{n-1}. The desingularization map is the multiplicative homomorphism eta: SB_n --> Z[B_n] defined by eta(sigma…
We categorify the notion of an infinitesimal braiding in a linear strict symmetric monoidal category, leading to the notion of a (strict) infinitesimal 2-braiding in a linear symmetric strict monoidal 2-category. We describe the associated categorification of the 4-term relation, leading to six categorified relations. …
We give a computational algorithm which decides if a braid is quasipositive or not. A braid is quasipositive if it's a product of conjuguates of generators. For this, we use the theory of Garside and the combinatorials properties of the Artin monoid.
The paper defines subgroups of camomile type and studies singular braids and links.
Study on signatures of positive braids with bounds derived.
The language of maximal lexicographic representatives of elements in the positive braid monoid with generators is a regular language. We describe with great detail the smallest Finite State Automaton accepting such language, and study the proportion of elements of length whose maximal lexicographic repres…
Let be a closed oriented surface of genus , let be the braid group of on strings, and let be the corresponding singular braid monoid. Our purpose in this paper is to prove that the desingularization map , introduced in the definition of the Vassiliev in…
A modular object in a symmetric monoidal bicategory is a Frobenius algebra object whose product and coproduct are biadjoint, equipped with a braided structure and a compatible twist, satisfying rigidity, ribbon, pivotality, and modularity conditions. We prove that the oriented 3-dimensional bordism bicategory of 1-, 2-…

Functor connects 4D 2-handlebodies to ribbon categories, detecting non-deformation diffeomorphisms.
We continue our study of the monoid of right-veering diffeomorphisms on a compact oriented surface with nonempty boundary, introduced in [HKM2]. We conduct a detailed study of the case when the surface is a punctured torus; in particular, we exhibit the difference between the monoid of right-veering diffeomorphisms and…

A new category generates 1D tangle invariants.
This paper gives a new interpretation of the virtual braid group in terms of a strict monoidal category SC that is freely generated by one object and three morphisms, two of the morphisms corresponding to basic pure virtual braids and one morphism corresponding to a transposition in the symmetric group. The key to this…
The paper constructs Yang-Baxter solutions using categorical augmented racks.
Given a family of groups admitting a braided monoidal structure (satisfying mild assumptions) we construct a family of spaces on which the groups act and whose connectivity yields, via a classical argument of Quillen, homological stability for the family of groups. We show that stability also holds with both polynomial…
We prove that the exponential growth rate of the regular language of penetration sequences is smaller than the growth rate of the regular language of normal form words, if the acceptor of the regular language of normal form words is strongly connected. Moreover, we show that the latter property is satisfied for all irr…
