48 results for Witten's conjecture

Let XX be a smooth, closed, connected, orientable four-manifold with b1(X)=0b^1(X)=0 and b+(X)3b^+(X)\geq 3 and odd. We show that if XX has Seiberg-Witten simple type, then the SO(3)-monopole cobordism formula of Feehan and Leness (2002) implies Witten's Conjecture relating the Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten invariants.

We prove that Witten's Conjecture [arXiv:hep-th/9411102] on the relationship between the Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten series for a four-manifold of Seiberg-Witten simple type with b1=0b_1=0 and odd b2+3b_2^+\geq 3 follows from our SO(3)\mathrm{SO}(3)-monopole cobordism formula [arXiv:math/0203047] when the four-manifold has $…

Witten's conjecture suggests that the polynomial invariants of Donaldson are expressible in terms of the Seiberg-Witten invariants if the underlying four-manifold is of simple type. A higher rank version of the Donaldson invariants was introduced by Kronheimer. Before even having been defined, the physicists Mariño and…

We obtain a combinatorial formula for the Miller-Morita-Mumford classes for the mapping class group of punctured surfaces and prove Witten's conjecture that they are proportional to the dual to the Witten cycles. The proportionality constant is shown to be exactly as conjectured by Arbarello and Cornalba [J. Alg. Geom.…

We conjecture a formula for the generating function of virtual χyχ_y-genera of moduli spaces of rank 2 sheaves on arbitrary surfaces with holomorphic 2-form. Specializing the conjecture to minimal surfaces of general type and to virtual Euler characteristics, we recover (part of) a formula of C. Vafa and E. Witten. The…

The Virasoro conjecture proposed by Eguchi-Hori-Xiong and S. Katz predicts that the generating function of Gromov-Witten invariants is annihilated by infinitely many differential operators which form a half branch of the Virasoro algebra. In this paper, we study the genus-1 case of the conjecture. In particular, we wil…

In this paper, we study some vanishing identities for Gromov-Witten invariants conjectured by K. Liu and H. Xu. We will prove these conjectures in the case that the summation range is large compare to genus. In fact, in such cases, we can obtain a vanishing identity which is stronger than their conjectures. Moreover we…

Wedge product on deRham complex of a Riemannian manifold MM can be pulled back to H(M)H^*(M) via explicit homotopy, constructed using Green's operator, to give higher product structures. We prove Fukaya's conjecture which suggests that Witten deformation of these higher product structures have semiclassical limits as op…

Recently L. Nicolaescu and the author formulated a conjecture which relates the geometric genus of a complex analytic normal surface singularity (whose link MM is a rational homology sphere) with the Seiberg-Witten invariant of MM associated with the ``canonical'' spincspin^c structure of MM. Since the Seiberg-Witten t…

We give a new proof of Witten asymptotic conjecture for Seifert manifolds with non vanishing Euler class and one exceptional fiber. Our method is based on semiclassical analysis on a two dimensional phase space torus. We prove that the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant of a Seifert manifold is the scalar product of t…

We prove a conjecture of Hutchings and Lee relating the Seiberg-Witten invariants of a closed 3-manifold X with b_1 > 0 to an invariant that `counts' gradient flow lines--including closed orbits--of a circle-valued Morse function on the manifold. The proof is based on a method described by Donaldson for computing the S…

In this paper, we demonstrate a relation among Seiberg-Witten invariants which arises from embedded surfaces in four-manifolds whose self-intersection number is negative. These relations, together with Taubes' basic theorems on the Seiberg-Witten invariants of symplectic manifolds, are then used to prove the symplectic…
