Weierstrass-type representations have been used extensively in surface theory to create surfaces with special curvature properties. In this paper we give a unified description of these representations in terms of classical transformation theory of -surfaces.
Making use of Murakami's classification of outer involutions in a Lie algebra and following the Morse-theoretic approach to harmonic two-spheres in Lie groups introduced by Burstall and Guest, we obtain a new classification of harmonic two-spheres in outer symmetric spaces and a Weierstrass-type representation for such…
Various transformations of isothermic surfaces are discussed and their interrelations are analyzed. Applications to cmc-1 surfaces in hyperbolic space and their minimal cousins in Euclidean space are presented: the Umehara-Yamada perturbation, the classical and Bryant's Weierstrass type representations, and the duality…
We establish what semi-discrete linear Weingarten surfaces with Weierstrass-type representations in -dimensional Riemannian and Lorentzian spaceforms are, confirming their required properties regarding curvatures and parallel surfaces, and then classify them. We then define and analyze their singularities. In partic…
Paper connects surfaces in 4D and 3D spacetime.
We construct large families of harmonic morphisms which are holomorphic with respect to Hermitian structures by finding heierarchies of Weierstrass-type representations. This enables us to find new examples of complex-valued harmonic morphisms from Euclidean spaces and spheres.
In this paper we will construct a Weierstrass type representation for minimal surfaces in 4-dimensional Lorentzian Damek-Ricci spaces and we give some examples of such surfaces.
The normal Gauss map of a minimal surface in the model space Sol of solvegeometry is a harmonic map with respect to a certain singular Riemannian metric on the extended complex plane.
We give a Weierstrass type representation for semi-discrete minimal surfaces in Euclidean 3-space. We then give explicit parametrizations of various smooth, semi-discrete and fully-discrete catenoids, determined from either variational or integrable systems principles. Finally, we state the shared properties that those…
We give an immersion formula, the Sym-Bobenko formula, for minimal surfaces in the 3-dimensional Heisenberg space. Such a formula can be used to give a generalized Weierstrass type representation and construct explicit examples of minimal surfaces.

Study of Demoulin surfaces using Gauss maps and conformal coordinates.
The paper presents a generalized Weierstrass representation for pseudospherical surfaces in terms of 3x3 matrices, using moving frames and loop group decompositions. The construction of all such surfaces, starting from a given representation, constitutes the subject of a separate, ulterior report. The appendix of the p…
Spinor representation in isotropic space via Laguerre geometry.
Using a quaternionic calculus, the Christoffel, Darboux, Goursat, and spectral transformations for discrete isothermic nets are described, with their interrelations. The Darboux and spectral transformations are used to define discrete analogs for cmc-1 surfaces in hyperbolic space and to obtain a discrete version of Br…
Defines spherical type surfaces via support function and classifies them.
This paper connects Laguerre minimal surfaces to Weierstrass representations.
Study timelike minimal surfaces in Heisenberg group using harmonic maps.
We study Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian surfaces in C^2, i.e. Lagrangian surfaces in C^2 which are stationary points of the area functional under smooth Hamiltonian variations. Using loop groups, we propose a formulation of the equation as a completely integrable system. We construct a Weierstrass type representatio…
We shall discuss the class of surfaces with holomorphic right Gauss maps in non-compact duals of compact semisimple Lie groups (e.g. SL(n,C)/SU(n)), which contains minimal surfaces in R^n and constant mean curvature 1 surfaces in H^3. A Weierstrass type representation formula, and a Chern-Osserman type inequality for s…
We characterize constant mean curvature surfaces in the three-dimensional Heisenberg group by a family of flat connections on the trivial bundle $\D \times \GL$ over a simply connected domain in the complex plane. In particular for minimal surfaces, we give an immersion formula, the so-called Sym-formula, …
In this paper we give a spinorial representation of submanifolds of any dimension and codimension into Lie groups equipped with left invariant metrics. As applications, we get a spinorial proof of the Fundamental Theorem for submanifolds into Lie groups, we recover previously known representations of submanifolds in $\…
In this paper we define and analyze singularities of discrete linear Weingarten surfaces with Weierstrass-type representations in -dimensional Riemannian and Lorentzian spaceforms. In particular, we discuss singularities of discrete surfaces with non-zero constant Gaussian curvature, and parallel surfaces of discret…
For all , we construct a canonical bijection between the space of ramified coverings of the sphere and the space of complete immersed surfaces in -dimensional hyperbolic space of finite area and of constant extrinsic curvature equal to . We show, furthermore, that this bijection restricts to a homeomor…
Using a bigraded differential complex depending on the CR and pseudohermitian structure, we give a characterization of three-dimensional strongly pseudoconvex pseudo-hermitian CR-manifolds isometrically immersed in Euclidean space in terms of an integral representation of Weierstrass type. Restricting to…
We study symmetric minimal surfaces in the three-dimensional Heisenberg group using the generalized Weierstrass type representation, the so-called loop group method. In particular, we will discuss how to construct minimal surfaces in with non-trivial topology. Moreover, we will classif…
The paper studies special surfaces with a new type of support function.
New integrable systems for marginally trapped surfaces in 4D Lorentz-Minkowski space.
In this paper, we investigate surfaces in singular semi-Euclidean space endowed with a degenerate metric. We define -minimal surfaces, and give a representation formula of Weierstrass type. Moreover, we prove that -minimal surfaces in and spacelike flat zero mean curvatur…
We suggest a new definition for discrete minimal surfaces in terms of sphere packings with orthogonally intersecting circles. These discrete minimal surfaces can be constructed from Schramm's circle patterns. We present a variational principle which allows us to construct discrete analogues of some classical minimal su…
We construct two one-parameter families of minimal properly embedded surfaces in the Lie group Sol3 using a Weierstrass-type representation. These surfaces are not invariant by a one-parameter group of ambient isometries. The first one can be viewed as a family of helicoids, and the second one is a family of minimal an…
Minimal cylinders in Heisenberg group characterized using loop group method.
A quaternionic calculus for surface pairs in the conformal 4-sphere is elaborated. This calculus is then used to discuss the relation between curved flats in the symmetric space of point pairs and Darboux and Christoffel pairs of isothermic surfaces. A new viewpoint on relations between surfaces of constant mean curvat…
Defines Ribaucour-type surfaces and their properties.
The Cauchy problem for harmonic maps from Minkowski space with its standard flat metric to a certain non-constant curvature Lorentzian 2-metric is studied. The target manifold is distinguished by the fact that the Euler-Lagrange equation for the energy functional is Darboux integrable. The time evolution of the Cauchy …
We continue our investigations into Toda's algorithm [14,3]; a Weierstrass-type representation of Gauss curvature surfaces in . We show that input potentials correspond in an appealing way to a special new class of surfaces, with , which we call . These are surfaces which may no…
Paper generalizes discrete CMC surfaces and shows how they can be derived.
This paper is the third of a series on Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian surfaces. We present here the most general theory, valid for any Hermitian symmetric target space. Using well-chosen moving frame formalism, we show that the equations are equivalent to an integrable system, generalizing the C^2 subcase analyzed i…
Superconformal surfaces in Euclidean space are the ones for which the ellipse of curvature at any point is a nondegenerate circle. They can be characterized as the surfaces for which a well-known pointwise inequality relating the intrinsic Gauss curvature with the extrinsic normal and mean curvatures, due to Wintgen (\…
We define a Gauss map for surfaces in the universal cover of the Lie group PSL_2(R) endowed with a left-invariant Riemannian metric having a 4-dimensional isometry group. This Gauss map is not related to the Lie group structure. We prove that the Gauss map of a nowhere vertical surface of critical constant mean curvatu…
Solves natural PDEs for minimal Lorentz surfaces in 4D spacetime.
After Galvez, Martinez and Milan discovered a (Weierstrass-type) holomorphic representation formula for flat surfaces in hyperbolic 3-space, the first, third and fourth authors here gave a framework for complete flat fronts with singularities in H^3. In the present work we broaden the notion of completeness to weak com…
We study supersymmetric harmonic maps from the point of view of integrable system. It is well known that harmonic maps from R^2 into a symmetric space are solutions of a integrable system . We show here that the superharmonic maps from R^{2|2} into a symmetric space are solutions of a integrable system, more precisely …
We prove a global Birkhoff decomposition for almost split real forms of loop groups, when an underlying finite dimensional Lie group is compact. Among applications, this shows that the dressing action - by the whole subgroup of loops which extend holomorphically to the exterior disc - on the -hierarchy of the ZS-AKN…
We define a notion of isotropic surfaces in , i.e. on which some canonical symplectic forms vanish. Using the cross-product in we define a map from the Grassmannian of to . This allows us to associate to each surface of a fun…

Using the methods of moving frames and exterior differential systems, we show that there exist Hopf hypersurfaces in complex hyperbolic space CH^2 with any specified value of the Hopf principal curvature less than or equal to the corresponding value for the horosphere. We give a construction for all such hypersurfaces …
