48 results for Strong Atiyah Conjecture

In this note we explain how the computation of the spectrum of the lamplighter group from \cite{Grigorchuk-Zuk(2000)} yields a counterexample to a strong version of the Atiyah conjectures about the range of L2L^2-Betti numbers of closed manifolds.

Study properties of group rings of three-manifold groups.

problem Properties of group rings of three-manifold groups.
method By piecing together known facts about three-manifold groups, the paper establishes two properties of the group ring CG\mathbb{C}G.
result If GG has rational cohomological dimension two, then CG\mathbb{C}G is coherent. If GG is torsion-free, then GG satisfies the Strong Atiyah Conjecture over C\mathbb{C} and CG\mathbb{C}G satisfies Kaplansky's Zero Divisor Conjecture.

New insights into Coxeter groups' L2L^2-cohomology via weighted analysis.

problem Understanding weighted L2L^2-cohomology of Coxeter groups.
method Using weighted L2L^2-cohomology groups and complexes called ruins, along with the Strong Atiyah Conjecture.
result Weighted L2L^2-cohomology groups of Coxeter groups are concentrated in low dimensions.

Study of vector bundles over classifying spaces for infinite discrete groups.

method Homotopy theoretical framework for infinite discrete groups, relating to Novikov conjecture.
result Established a connection between representation spaces and vector bundles over classifying spaces.

Let A denote the algebraic closure of the rationals Q in the complex numbers C. Suppose G is a torsion-free group which contains a congruence subgroup as a normal subgroup of finite index and denote by U(G) the C-algebra of closed densely defined unbounded operators affiliated to the group von Neumann algebra. We prove…

Given a configuration x\mathbf{x} of nn distinct points in hyperbolic 33-space H3H^3, Michael Atiyah associated nn polynomials p1,,pnp_1,\ldots,p_n of a variable tCP1t \in \mathbb{C}P^1, of degree n1n-1, and conjectured that they are linearly independent over C\mathbb{C}, no matter which configuration x\mathbf{x} one s…

Compact theorem for SO(3)SO(3) anti-self-dual equations on cylindrical manifolds.

problem Proving compactness of instantons with translation symmetry.
method Gromov-Uhlenbeck type compactness theorem for SO(3)SO(3) anti-self-dual instantons.
result Sequence of instantons converges to singular objects with instanton and holomorphic curve components.

The Atiyah conjecture predicts that the L2-Betti numbers of a finite CW-complex with torsion-free fundamental group are integers. We show that the Atiyah conjecture holds (with an additional technical condition) for direct and inverse limits of directed systems of groups for which it is true. As a corollary it holds fo…

The Thurston norm is derived from polytopes and applied to group cohomology.

problem Understanding the structure of finitely generated torsion-free groups.
method Using the Strong Atiyah Conjecture and L2L^2-Betti numbers, the Thurston norm is defined and related to polytopes.
result The Thurston norm is a seminorm on the first cohomology group of a group with real coefficients.

The paper solves conjectures related to strong openness and optimal L2L^2 extension.

problem Strong openness of multiplier ideal sheaves and optimal L2L^2 extension.
method Solution of conjectures related to Demailly's strong openness and related conjectures.
result Optimal L2L^2 extension implies Berndtsson's positivity of vector bundles.

An index formula is proposed for contact transformations between contact manifolds equipped with CR structures or with fillings by symplectic manifolds. The formula generalizes the Atiyah-Singer formula and gives a conjectured formula for the index of Fourier integral operators, as well as Epstein's relative index for …

We study the Yang-Mills flow on a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X . Along a solution of the flow, we show the curvature iΛF(At)iΛF(A_t) approaches in L2L^2 an endomorphism with constant eigenvalues given by the slopes of the quotients from the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of E. This proves a sha…

A group action on a moduli space is shown to be faithful.

problem Injectivity of a homomorphism from mapping class group to symplectic mapping class group.
method Instanton Floer homology, Atiyah-Floer Conjecture, Heegaard Floer strategy.
result The homomorphism is injective for surfaces of genus at least 2.

The AJ conjecture, formulated by Garoufalidis, relates the A-polynomial and the colored Jones polynomial of a knot in the 3-sphere. It has been confirmed for all torus knots, some classes of two-bridge knots and pretzel knots, and most cabled knots over torus knots. The strong AJ conjecture, formulated by Sikora, relat…
