Sparse principal component analysis (sparse PCA) aims at finding a sparse basis to improve the interpretability over the dense basis of PCA, meanwhile the sparse basis should cover the data subspace as much as possible. In contrast to most of existing work which deal with the problem by adding some sparsity penalties o…

problem Challenges in identifying important features for classification in small data settings.
method GOAL algorithm reduces and rotates feature space in a lower-dimensional gauge, providing an analytically tractable solution.
result GOAL algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art ML tools in synthetic and real-world applications.

The study of adversarial robustness has so far largely focused on perturbations bound in p-norms. However, state-of-the-art models turn out to be also vulnerable to other, more natural classes of perturbations such as translations and rotations. In this work, we thoroughly investigate the vulnerability of neural networ…

We consider the learning from noisy labels (NL) problem which emerges in many real-world applications. In addition to the widely-studied synthetic noise in the NL literature, we also consider the pseudo labels in semi-supervised learning (Semi-SL) as a special case of NL. For both types of noise, we argue that the gene…

General rotational surfaces as a source of examples of surfaces in the four-dimensional Euclidean space have been introduced by C. Moore. In this paper we consider the analogue of these surfaces in the Minkowski 4-space. On the base of our invariant theory of spacelike surfaces we study general rotational surfaces with…

This paper proposes a set of rules to revise various neural networks for 3D point cloud processing to rotation-equivariant quaternion neural networks (REQNNs). We find that when a neural network uses quaternion features under certain conditions, the network feature naturally has the rotation-equivariance property. Rota…
