48 results for Seifert fibred surgery

We prove that there are exactly 66 Nil Seifert fibred spaces which can be obtained by Dehn surgeries on non-trefoil knots in S3S^3, with {60,144,156,288,300}\{60, 144, 156, 288, 300\} as the exact set of all such surgery slopes up to taking the mirror images of the knots. We conjecture that there are exactly 44 specific hyperbolic kno…

The Cabling Conjecture states that surgery on hyperbolic knots in S3S^3 never produces reducible manifolds. In contrast, there do exist hyperbolic knots in some lens spaces with non-prime surgeries. Baker constructed a family of such hyperbolic knots and posed a conjecture that his examples encompass all hyperbolic kno…

We consider the question of when is the closed manifold obtained by elementary surgery on an nn-knot Seifert fibred over a 2-orbifold. After some observations on the classical case, we concentrate on the cases n=2 and 3. We have found a new family of 2-knots with torsion-free, solvable group, overlooked in earlier wor…

A Dehn surgery on a knot KK in S3S^3 is exceptional if it produces a reducible, toroidal or Seifert fibred manifold. It is known that a large arborescent knot admits no such surgery unless it is a type II arborescent knot. The main theorem of this paper shows that up to isotopy there are exactly three large arborescen…

This paper concerns the truly or purely cosmetic surgery conjecture. We give a survey on exceptional surgeries and cosmetic surgeries. We prove that the slope of an exceptional truly cosmetic surgery on a hyperbolic knot in S3S^3 must be ±1\pm 1 and the surgery must be toroidal but not Seifert fibred. As consequence we…

result Found rational homology 3-spheres that admit co-orientable taut foliations but none with vanishing Euler class.

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that very many Dehn fillings on a cusped hyperbolic 3-manifold yield a 3-manifold which is irreducible, atoroidal and not Seifert fibred, and which has infinite, word hyperbolic fundamental group. We establish an extension of the Thurston-Gromov 2π theorem by showing that if ea…

How do Seifert surgeries on hyperbolic knots arise from those on torus knots? We approach this question from a networking viewpoint. The Seifert Surgery Network is a 1-dimensional complex whose vertices correspond to Seifert surgeries; two vertices are connected by an edge if one Seifert surgery is obtained from the ot…

An interesting question is whether two 3-manifolds can be distinguished by computing and comparing their collections of finite covers; more precisely, by the profinite completions of their fundamental groups. In this paper, we solve this question completely for closed orientable Seifert fibre spaces. In particular, all…

We call a pair (K, m) of a knot K in the 3-sphere S^3 and an integer m a Seifert fibered surgery if m-surgery on K yields a Seifert fiber space. For most known Seifert fibered surgeries (K, m), K can be embedded in a genus 2 Heegaard surface of S^3 in a primitive/Seifert position, the concept introduced by Dean as a na…

Exceptional Dehn surgeries on arborescent knots have been classified except for Seifert fibered surgeries on Montesinos knots of length 3. In this paper, we define the primitive/Seifert-fibered property for a knot in S^3.
