We establish Marstrand-type projection theorems for orthogonal projections along geodesics onto m-dimensional subspaces of hyperbolic -space by a geometric argument. Moreover, we obtain a Besicovitch-Federer type characterization of purely unrectifiable sets in terms of these hyperbolic orthogonal projections.
We construct a decomposition of the identity operator on a Riemannian manifold as a sum of smooth orthogonal projections subordinate to an open cover of . This extends a decomposition of the real line by smooth orthogonal projection due to Coifman, Meyer and Auscher, Weiss, Wickerhauser, and a similar decomposit…
Principal component analysis (PCA) is an unsupervised method for learning low-dimensional features with orthogonal projections. Multilinear PCA methods extend PCA to deal with multidimensional data (tensors) directly via tensor-to-tensor projection or tensor-to-vector projection (TVP). However, under the TVP setting, i…
DeTurck and Yang have shown that in the neighbourhood of every point of a -dimensional Riemannian manifold, there exists a system of orthogonal coordinates (that is, whith respect to which the metric has diagonal form). We show that this property does not generalize to higher dimensions. In particular, the complex p…
Introduces new curvature concept for Kähler manifolds.
The use of orthogonal projections on high-dimensional input and target data in learning frameworks is studied. First, we investigate the relations between two standard objectives in dimension reduction, preservation of variance and of pairwise relative distances. Investigations of their asymptotic correlation as well a…
Unified framework for multi-view learning with orthogonal projections.
New findings on Kähler manifolds restrict orthogonal coordinates existence.
In this paper known results of symmetric orthogonality, as introduced by G. Birkhoff, and non-expansive nearest point projections are extended from the linear to the metric setting. If the space has non-positive curvature in the sense Busemann then it is shown that those concepts are actually equivalent. In the end it …

We study the relations between the quaternion -type group and the boundary of the unit ball on two dimensional quaternionic space. The orthogonal projection of the space of square integrable functions defined on quaternion -type group into its subspace of boundary values of -holomorphic functions is consider. …

Soft-Radial Projection solves gradient saturation in constrained deep learning.
Let X be a smooth complex projective curve and S a finite subset of X. We show that an orthogonal or symplectic parabolic Higgs bundle on X with parabolic structure over S admits a Hermitian-Einstein connection if and only if it is polystable.
Let be a hypersurface in and let be an orthogonal projection in restricted to . We say that satisfies the corresponding to if there exists a constant such that for every measurable in the range…
A classical problem in constant mean curvature hypersurface theory is, for given , to determine whether a compact submanifold of codimension two in Euclidean space , having a single valued orthogonal projection on , is the boundary of a graph with constant mean curvature over a …
We prove that the set of orthogonal separable coordinates on an arbitrary (pseudo-)Riemannian manifold carries a natural structure of a projective variety, equipped with an action of the isometry group. This leads us to propose a new, algebraic geometric approach to the classification of orthogonal separable coordinate…
We prove that a foliation of codimension on a -dimen\-sio\-nal pseudo-Riemannian manifold is pseudo-Riemannian if and only if any geodesic that is orthogonal at one point to a leaf is orthogonal to every leaf it intersects. We show that on the graph of a pseudo-Riemannian foliation there exis…
A parametric manifold can be viewed as the manifold of orbits of a (regular) foliation of a manifold by means of a family of curves. If the foliation is hypersurface orthogonal, the parametric manifold is equivalent to the 1-parameter family of hypersurfaces orthogonal to the curves, each of which inherits a metric and…
The paper creates a deformation retraction for homeomorphisms of the projective plane.
We show that a compact complex surface which admits a conformally Kähler metric g of positive orthogonal holomorphic bisectional curvature is biholomorphic to the complex projective plane. In addition, if g is a Hermitian metric which is Einstein, then the biholomorphism can be chosen to be an isometry via which g beco…

Predictive models are increasingly deployed for the purpose of determining access to services such as credit, insurance, and employment. Despite potential gains in productivity and efficiency, several potential problems have yet to be addressed, particularly the potential for unintentional discrimination. We present an…

We solve the equivalence problem for the orthogonally separable webs on the three-sphere under the action of the isometry group. This continues a classical project initiated by Olevsky in which he solved the corresponding canonical forms problem. The solution to the equivalence problem together with the results by Olev…
Formula for Heisenberg group surface areas derived.
A complex orthogonal (geometric) structure on a complex manifold is a geometric structure locally modelled on a non-degenerate quadric. One of the first examples of such a structure on a compact manifold of dimension three was constructed by Guillot. In this paper, we show that the same manifold carries a family of uni…
The paper extends a formula linking surface curvature to projection invariants.
Obtaining complete information about the shape of an object by looking at it from a single direction is impossible in general. In this paper, we theoretically study obtaining differential geometric information of an object from orthogonal projections in a number of directions. We discuss relations between (1) a space c…
New Zoll families of minimal spheres found in spheres and projective spaces.
This paper discusses a new type of discriminant analysis based on the orthogonal projection of data onto a generalized difference subspace (GDS). In our previous work, we have demonstrated that GDS projection works as the quasi-orthogonalization of class subspaces, which is an effective feature extraction for subspace …

The implementation of conventional sparse principal component analysis (SPCA) on high-dimensional data sets has become a time consuming work. We propose a projection pursuit (PP) algorithm based on Gaussian mixture models (GMMs). The negentropy obtained from a multivariate density estimated by GMMs is adopted as the PP index to be maximised. For a fixed dimension of the projection subspace, the GMM-based density estimation is projected onto that subspace, wh…
We study a notion of convex cocompactness for discrete subgroups of the projective general linear group acting (not necessarily irreducibly) on real projective space, and give various characterizations. A convex cocompact group in this sense need not be word hyperbolic, but we show that it still has some of the good pr…
