Paper connects algebraic and analytic methods for braid group representations.
I show that the solution of a standard clearing model commonly used in contagion analyses for financial systems can be expressed as a specific form of a generalized Katz centrality measure under conditions that correspond to a system-wide shock. This result provides a formal explanation for earlier empirical results wh…
We give examples of closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds with first Betti number 2 and 3 for which no sequence of finite abelian covering spaces increases the first Betti number. For 3-manifolds with first Betti number 2 we give a characterization in terms of some generalized self-linking numbers of , for there to exis…
We analyze the probabilistic variance of a solution of Liouville's equation for curvature, given suitable bounds on the Gaussian curvature. The related systolic geometry was recently studied by Horowitz, Katz, and Katz, where we obtained a strengthening of Loewner's torus inequality containing a "defect term", similar …
Eguchi-Hori-Xiong and S. Katz proposed a conjecture that the partition function of topological sigma model coupled to gravity is annihilated by infinitely many differential operators which form half branch of the Virasoro algebra. In this paper, we give a proof to this conjecture for the genus 0 part.
We extend a result of M. Katz on conformal systoles to all four-manifolds with b^+=1 which have odd intersection form. The same result holds for all four-manifolds with b^+=1 with even intersection form and which are symplectic or satisfy the so-called 5/4-conjecture.
For a genus-1 1-bridge knot in the 3-sphere, that is, a (1,1)-knot, a middle tunnel is a tunnel that is not an upper or lower tunnel for some (1,1)-position. Most torus knots have a middle tunnel, and non-torus-knot examples were obtained by Goda, Hayashi, and Ishihara. We generalize their construction and calculate th…
Let X be a closed manifold of dimension 2m >= 6 with torsion-free middle-dimensional homology. We construct metrics on X of arbitrarily small volume, such that every middle-dimensional submanifold of less than unit volume necessarily bounds. Thus, Loewner's theorem has no higher-dimensional analogue.
In this paper we study the systole growth of arithmetic locally symmetric spaces up congruence covers and show that this growth is at least logarithmic in volume. This generalizes previous work of Buser and Sarnak as well as Katz, Schaps and Vishne where the case of compact hyperbolic 2- and 3-manifolds was considered.
For an arbitrary Frobenius manifold a system of Virasoro constraints is constructed. In the semisimple case these constraints are proved to hold true in the genus one approximation. Particularly, the genus Virasoro conjecture of T.Eguchi, K.Hori, M.Jinzenji, and C.-S.Xiong and of S.Katz is proved for smooth pr…
Motivated by a remark and a question of Nicholas Katz, we characterize the tangent space of the space of Fuchsian equations with given generic exponents inside the corresponding moduli space of logarithmic connections: we construct a weight 1 Hodge structure on the tangent space of the moduli of logarithmic connections…
Employing profits data of Japanese companies in 2002 and 2003, we identify the non-Gibrat's law which holds in the middle profits region. From the law of detailed balance in all regions, Gibrat's law in the high region and the non-Gibrat's law in the middle region, we kinematically derive the profits distribution funct…
Proved inequality for anti-self-polar polytopes.
The Virasoro conjecture proposed by Eguchi-Hori-Xiong and S. Katz predicts that the generating function of Gromov-Witten invariants is annihilated by infinitely many differential operators which form a half branch of the Virasoro algebra. In this paper, we study the genus-1 case of the conjecture. In particular, we wil…
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a common electro-physiological cardiac disorder that causes changes in the anatomy of the atria. A better characterization of these changes is desirable for the definition of clinical biomarkers, furthermore, thus there is a need for its fully automatic segmentation from clinical images. In …
This paper shows that a construction, which was introduced by Piotr Minc in connection with a problem that came from Helly type theorems and that allows to replace three PL-arcs with a "sheltered middle path", can in the case of general (non-PL) paths result in the topologist's sine curve.
Study uses 1D-CNNs to forecast mortality in ELSA survey.
Employing data on the assessed value of land in 1974--2007 Japan, we exhibit a quasistatically varying log-normal distribution in the middle scale region. In the derivation, a Non-Gibrat's law under the detailed quasi-balance is adopted together with two approximations. The resultant distribution is power-law with the …
Inspired by Katz-Mazur theorem on crystalline cohomology and by Eskin-Kontsevich-Zorich's numerical experiments, we conjecture that the polygon of Lyapunov spectrum lies above (or on) the Harder-Narasimhan polygon of the Hodge bundle over any Teichmüller curve. We also discuss the connections between the two polygons a…
Accurate traffic speed prediction is an important and challenging topic for transportation planning. Previous studies on traffic speed prediction predominately used spatio-temporal and context features for prediction. However, they have not made good use of the impact of urban traffic incidents. In this work, we aim to…
New method tackles parcel routing with AI.
In arXiv:math/0508510, Rasmussen observed that the Khovanov-Rozansky homology of a link is a finitely generated module over the polynomial ring generated by the components of this link. In the current paper, we study the module structure of the middle HOMFLYPT homology, especially the Betti numbers of this module. For …
We investigate the Japanese personal income distribution in the high income range over the 112 years 1887-1998, and that in the middle income range over the 44 years 1955-98. It is observed that the distribution pattern of the lognormal with power law tail is the universal structure. However the indexes specifying the …
Employing profits data of Japanese firms in 2003--2005, we kinematically exhibit the static log-normal distribution in the middle scale region. In the derivation, a Non-Gibrat's law under the detailed balance is adopted together with following two approximations. Firstly, the probability density function of profits gro…
We examine the large systole problem, which concerns compact hyperbolic Riemannian surfaces whose systole, the length of the shortest noncontractible loops, grows logarithmically in genus. The generalization of a construction of Buser and Sarnak by Katz, Schaps, and Vishne, which uses principal "congruence" subgroups o…
Proves tropical Hodge theory for smooth projective varieties, conditional on Laplacian regularity.
Vanishing results for reduced -cohomology are established in the case of twisted products, which are a~generalization of warped products. Only the case is considered. This is an extension of some results by Gol'dshtein, Kuz'minov and Shvedov about the -cohomology of warped cylinders. One of t…
Celiac Disease (CD) and Environmental Enteropathy (EE) are common causes of malnutrition and adversely impact normal childhood development. CD is an autoimmune disorder that is prevalent worldwide and is caused by an increased sensitivity to gluten. Gluten exposure destructs the small intestinal epithelial barrier, res…
In electroencephalogram (EEG) signal processing, finding the appropriate information from a dataset has been a big challenge for successful signal classification. The feature selection methods make it possible to solve this problem; however, the method selection is still under investigation to find out which feature ca…
This paper presents an unsupervised method to learn a neural network, namely an explainer, to interpret a pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN), i.e., the explainer uses interpretable visual concepts to explain features in middle conv-layers of a CNN. Given feature maps of a conv-layer of the CNN, the explaine…

In this paper we study geometric, algebraic, and computational aspects of flexibility and infinitesimal flexibility of Kokotsakis meshes. A Kokotsakis mesh is a mesh that consists of a face in the middle and a certain band of faces attached to the middle face by its perimeter. In particular any 3x3-mesh made of quadran…
The results of R^2 dynamical random surface model (2-dimensional quantum gravity with a term) are applied to explain the personal income distribution. A scale invariance exists if there is not the term in the action. The R^2 term provides a typical scale and breaks the scale invariance explicitly in the low…
We compute the space of harmonic forms (outside the middle degrees) on negatively curved Kaehler manifolds of finite volume.
In this paper we prove that, for any arithmetic hyperbolic -manifold of the first type, the systole of most of the principal congruence coverings satisfy where is a constant independent of . This generalizes previous work of Buser and Sarn…
We use Klee's Dehn-Sommerville relations and other results on face numbers of homology manifolds without boundary to (i) prove Kalai's conjecture providing lower bounds on the f-vectors of an even-dimensional manifold with all but the middle Betti number vanishing, (ii) verify Kühnel's conjecture that gives an upper bo…
Investigates how FDI and R&D affect host countries' growth.
By using numerical simulation, we confirm that Takayasu--Sato--Takayasu (TST) model which leads Pareto's law satisfies the detailed balance under Gibrat's law. In the simulation, we take an exponential tent-shaped function as the growth rate distribution. We also numerically confirm the reflection law equivalent to the…
This paper compares token and equity financing for startups.
We propose a joint source and channel coding (JSCC) technique for wireless image transmission that does not rely on explicit codes for either compression or error correction; instead, it directly maps the image pixel values to the complex-valued channel input symbols. We parameterize the encoder and decoder functions b…
Orchestrating the Twin Transition in GBS: A Socio-Technical Framework
We study the effect of the social stratification on the wealth distribution on a system of interacting economic agents that are constrained to interact only within their own economic class. The economical mobility of the agents is related to its success in exchange transactions. Different wealth distributions are obtai…

We reduced Rudyak's conjecture that a degree one map between closed manifolds cannot raise the Lusternik-Schnirelmann category to the computation of the category of the product of two lens spaces with relatively prime and . We have computed for values of . It…

Consider the smooth quadric Q_6 in P^7. The middle homology group H_6(Q_6,Z) is two-dimensional with a basis given by two classes of linear subspaces. We classify all threefolds of bidegree (1,p) inside Q_6.
L-modules are a combinatorial analogue of constructible sheaves on the reductive Borel-Serre compactification of a locally symmetric space. We define the micro-support of an L-module; it is a set of irreducible modules for the Levi quotients of the parabolic Q-subgroups associated to the strata. We prove a vanishing th…
