48 results for Harmonic sequences

Existence of an infinite sequence of harmonic maps between spheres of certain dimensions was proven by Bizon and Chmaj. This sequence shares many features of the Bartnik-McKinnon sequence of solutions to the Einstein-Yang-Mills equations as well as sequences of solutions that have arisen in other physical models. We ap…

We define two transforms between non-conformal harmonic maps from a surface into the 3-sphere. With these transforms one can construct, from one such harmonic map, a sequence of harmonic maps. We show that there is a correspondence between non-conformal harmonic maps into the 3-sphere, HH-surfaces in Euclidean 3-space…

In this paper, we formulate and prove a general compactness theorem for harmonic maps using Deligne-Mumford moduli space and families of curves. The main theorem shows that given a sequence of harmonic maps over a sequence of complex curves, there is a family of curves and a subsequence such that both the domains and t…

We show that all superconformal harmonic immersions from genus one surfaces into de Sitter spaces S12n S ^ {2n}_1 with globally defined harmonic sequence are of finite-type and hence result merely from solving a pair of ordinary differential equations. αα-Dirac-harmonic maps are variations of Dirac-harmonic maps, analogous to αα-harmonic maps that were introduced by Sacks-Uhlenbeck to attack the existence problem for harmonic maps from surfaces. For α>1α>1, the latter are known to satisfy a Palais-Smale condtion, and so, the technique of Sacks-Uhlenbeck consists in …

We prove the energy identity for min-max sequences of the Sacks-Uhlenbeck and the biharmonic approximation of harmonic maps from surfaces into general target manifolds. The proof relies on Hopf-differential type estimates for the two approximations and on estimates for the concentration radius of bubbles.
