In this note we study finite-time singularities in the Chern-Ricci flow. We show that finite-time singularities are characterized by the blow-up of the scalar curvature of the Chern connection.
In this short paper, we show that Kähler-Ricci flows over closed manifolds would have scalar curvature blown-up for finite time singularity. Certain control of the blowing-up is achieved with some mild assumption.

The article explores Helfrich flow with spontaneous curvature, finding singularities and convergence behaviors.
We prove that the scalar curvature of a homogeneous Ricci flow solution blows up at a forward or backward finite-time singularity.
We investigate the limiting behavior of the unnormalized Kahler-Ricci flow on a Kahler manifold with a polarized initial Kahler metric. We prove that the Kahler-Ricci flow becomes extinct in finite time if and only if the manifold has positive first Chern class and the initial Kahler class is proportional to the first …
Study Kähler-Ricci flow on manifolds with singularities.
It is shown that the curvature function satisfies a nonlinear evolution equation under the general curve shortening flow and a detailed asymptotic behavior of the closed curves is presented when they contract to a point in finite time.
Study on fake stationary Volterra Heston model for non-stationary processes.
We show precompactness results for solutions to parabolic fourth order geometric evolution equations. As part of the proof we obtain smoothing estimates for these flows in the presence of a curvature bound, an improvement on prior results which also require a Sobolev constant bound. As consequences of these results we …
Study long-term asset liquidation behavior with external flows.
We present a plausible micro-founded model for the previously postulated power law finite time singular form of the crash hazard rate in the Johansen-Ledoit-Sornette model of rational expectation bubbles. The model is based on a percolation picture of the network of traders and the concept that clusters of connected tr…
This short note studies the collapsing behavior of the Kähler-Ricci flow on a compact Kähler manifold X admitting a holomorphic submersion X -> B where B is a Kähler manifold of lower dimension than X. We give cohomological and curvature conditions under which the fibers collapse at the optimal rate ~(T-t)^{1/2}
We establish fundamental results for a parabolic flow of Riemannian metrics introduced by Bahuaud-Helliwell in arXiv:1010:4287v1 which is based on the Fefferman-Graham ambient obstruction tensor. First, we obtain local smoothing estimates for the curvature tensor and use them to prove pointwise smoothing estimate…
The study examines the long-term behavior of mean curvature flows in closed 3-manifolds.
The paper studies curve shortening flows on non-convex surfaces.
We consider the evolution by mean curvature flow of a closed submanifold of the complex projective space. We show that, if the submanifold has small codimension and satisfies a suitable pinching condition on the second fundamental form, then the evolution has two possible behaviors: either the submanifold shrinks to a …
In this paper, we study multi-armed bandit problems in explore-then-commit setting. In our proposed explore-then-commit setting, the goal is to identify the best arm after a pure experimentation (exploration) phase and exploit it once or for a given finite number of times. We identify that although the arm with the hig…
In this paper, we first derive a pinching estimate on the traceless Ricci curvature in term of scalar curvature and Weyl tensor under the Ricci flow. Then we apply this estimate to study finite-time singularity behavior. We show that if the scalar curvature is uniformly bounded, then the Weyl tensor has to blow up, as …
We consider the Cauchy problem for doubly non-linear degenerate parabolic equations on Riemannian manifolds of infinite volume, or in . The equation contains a weight function as a capacitary coefficient which we assume to decay at infinity. We connect the behavior of non-negative solutions to the interplay betwe…
The paper studies mean curvature flow of spacelike-convex submanifolds in pseudo-Euclidean space.
We study the behavior of the Kähler-Ricci flow on some Fano bundle which is a trivial bundle on one Zariski open set. We show that if the fiber is blown up at one point or some weighted projective space blown up at the orbifold point and the initial metric is in a suitable kähler class, then the fibers…
This work concerns with the existence and detailed asymptotic analysis of Type II singularities for solutions to complete non-compact conformally flat Yamabe flow with cylindrical behavior at infinity. We provide the specific blow-up rate of the maximum curvature and show that the solution converges, after blowing-up a…
We study the Hermitian curvature flow of locally homogeneous non-Kähler metrics on compact complex surfaces. In particular, we characterize the long-time behavior of the solutions to the flow. We also provide the first example of a compact complex non-Kähler manifold admitting a finite time singularity for the Hermitia…
We investigate the scalar curvature behavior along the normalized conical Kähler-Ricci flow , which is the conic version of the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow, with finite maximal existence time . We prove that the scalar curvature of is bounded from above by under the existence of a con…
In this paper, we propose two discontinuous dynamical systems in continuous time with guaranteed prescribed finite-time local convergence to strict local minima of a given cost function. Our approach consists of exploiting a Lyapunov-based differential inequality for differential inclusions, which leads to finite-time …

MAFLA improves sampling from heavy-tailed distributions using MH-inspired corrections.
We show that if on a compact Kahler threefold there is a solution of the Kahler-Ricci flow which encounters a finite time collapsing singularity, then the manifold admits a Fano fibration. Furthermore, if there is finite time extinction then the manifold is Fano and the initial class is a positive multiple of the first…
We consider the question of whether solutions of variants of Teichmüller harmonic map flow from surfaces to general targets can degenerate in finite time. For the original flow from closed surfaces of genus at least , as well as the flow from cylinders, we prove that such a finite-time degeneration must occur in…
This article studies a portfolio optimization problem, where the market consisting of several stocks is modeled by a multi-dimensional jump-diffusion process with age-dependent semi-Markov modulated coefficients. We study risk sensitive portfolio optimization on the finite time horizon. We study the problem by using a …
Study shows flows from double cones remain symmetric, finds non-symmetric example.
We give concentration bounds for martingales that are uniform over finite times and extend classical Hoeffding and Bernstein inequalities. We also demonstrate our concentration bounds to be optimal with a matching anti-concentration inequality, proved using the same method. Together these constitute a finite-time versi…
We consider two types of -centro affine flows on smooth, centrally symmetric, closed convex planar curves, -contracting, respectively, -expanding. Here is an arbitrary real number greater than 1. We show that, under any -contracting flow, the evolving curves shrink to a point in finite time and the only…

When the Poincaré map associated with a periodic orbit of a hybrid dynamical system has constant-rank iterates, we demonstrate the existence of a constant-dimensional invariant subsystem near the orbit which attracts all nearby trajectories in finite time. This result shows that the long-term behavior of a hybrid model…

We present a novel analysis extending the recent work of Mizuno et al. [2002] on the hyperinflations of Germany (1920/1/1-1923/11/1), Hungary (1945/4/30-1946/7/15), Brazil (1969-1994), Israel (1969-1985), Nicaragua (1969-1991), Peru (1969-1990) and Bolivia (1969-1985). Imitative and contrarian behaviors are the two typical opposite attitudes of investors in stock markets. We introduce a simple model to investigate their interplay in a stock market where agents can take only two states, bullish or bearish. Each bullish (bearish) agent polls m "friends'' and changes her opinion to bear…

Reinforcement learning (RL) has been successfully used to solve many continuous control tasks. Despite its impressive results however, fundamental questions regarding the sample complexity of RL on continuous problems remain open. We study the performance of RL in this setting by considering the behavior of the Least-S…
