48 results for Euclidean three space

The goal of this paper is to introduce and study analogues of the Euclidean Funk and Hilbert metrics on open convex subsets ΩΩ of hyperbolic or spherical spaces. At least at a formal level, there are striking similarities among the three cases: Euclidean, spherical and hyperbolic. We start by defining non-Euclidean an…

A conformal map from a Riemann surface to a Euclidean space of dimension greater than or equal to three is explained by using the Clifford algebra, in a similar fashion to quaternionic holomorphic geometry of surfaces in the Euclidean three- or four-space. The Weierstrass representation, the spin transform, the Darboux…

Due to Janet-Cartan's theorem, any analytic Riemannian manifolds can be locally isometrically embedded into a sufficiently high dimensional Euclidean space. However, for an individual Riemannian manifold (M,g), it is in general hard to determine the least dimensional Euclidean space into which (M,g) can be locally isom…

In this paper we refine the construction and related estimates for complete Constant Mean Curvature surfaces in Euclidean three-space developed in Kapouleas (1990) by adopting the more precise and powerful version of the methodology which was developed in Kapouleas (1995). As a consequence we remove the severe restrict…

We consider the problem of embedding a relation, represented as a directed graph, into Euclidean space. For three types of embeddings motivated by the recent literature on knowledge graphs, we obtain characterizations of which relations they are able to capture, as well as bounds on the minimal dimensionality and preci…

A triangulated piecewise-linear minimal surface in Euclidean 3-space defined using a variational characterization is critical for area amongst all continuous piecewise-linear variations with compact support that preserve the simplicial structure. We explicitly construct examples of such surfaces that are embedded and a…

The notion of ideal immersions was introduced by the author in 1990s. Roughly speaking, an ideal immersion of a Riemannian manifold into a real space form is a nice isometric immersion which produces the least possible amount of tension from the ambient space at each point. In this paper, we classify all ideal hypersur…

We construct a number of sculptures, each based on a geometric design native to the three-dimensional sphere. Using stereographic projection we transfer the design from the three-sphere to ordinary Euclidean space. All of the sculptures are then fabricated by the 3D printing service Shapeways.
