We compute the Dijkgraaf-Witten invariants of surfaces in terms of projective representations of groups. As an application we prove that the complex Dijkgraaf-Witten invariants of surfaces of positive genus are positive integers.

We introduce a generalization of the Dijkgraaf-Witten invariants for cusped or compact oriented 3-manifolds. We show that the generalized DW invariants distinguish some pairs of cusped hyperbolic 3-manifolds with the same hyperbolic volumes and with the same Turaev-Viro invariants. We also present an example of a pair …
We apply Dijkgraaf-Witten invariant over an semiproduct of abelian groups to show that, if the -surgery along a knot results in a small Seifert 3-manifold with multiplicities , then many constraints on can be read off from the Alexander polynomial of .
Arithmetic Dijkgraaf-Witten theory constructs analogues in Chern-Simons TQFT.
We introduce defects, with internal gauge symmetries, on a knot and Seifert surface to a knot into the combinatorial construction of finite gauge-group Dijkgraaf-Witten theory. The appropriate initial data for the construction are certain three object categories, with coefficients satisfying a partially degenerate cocy…
T. Mochizuki determined all 3-cocycles of the third quandle cohomologies of Alexander quandles on finite fields. We show that all the 3-cocycles, except those of 2-cocycle forms, are derived from group 3-cocycles of a meta-abelian group. Further, the quandle cocycle invariant of a link using Mochizuki's 3-cocycle is eq…
We propose a simple method to produce quandle cocycles from group cocycles, as a modification of Inoue-Kabaya chain map. We further show that, in respect to "universal central extended quandles", the chain map induces an isomorphism between their third homologies. For example, all Mochizuki's quandle 3-cocycles are sho…
Minhyong Kim introduced arithmetic Chern-Simons invariants for totally imaginary number fields as arithmetic analogues of the Chern-Simons invariants for 3-manifolds. In this paper, we extend Kim's definition for any number field, by using the modified étale cohomology groups and fundamental groups which take real plac…
We give an interpretation of Yetter's Invariant of manifolds in terms of the homotopy type of the function space , where is a crossed module and is its classifying space. From this formulation, there follows that Yetter's invariant depends only on the homotopy type of , and the weak homot…

This paper demonstrates a topological meaning of quandle cocycle invariants of links with respect to finite connected quandles , from a perspective of homotopy theory: Specifically, for any prime which does not divide the type of , the -torsion of this invariants is equal to a sum of the colouring po…
Simplified 3D Dijkgraaf-Witten theory with defects explained geometrically.
This paper approximates SU(2) Chern-Simons theory using finite group gauge theories.
In this paper, we provide a construction of a state-sum model for finite gauge-group Dijkgraaf-Witten theory on surfaces with codimension 1 defects. The construction requires not only that the triangulation be subordinate to the filtration, but flag-like: each simplex of the triangulation is either disjoint from the de…
Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs) pertinent to some emergent low energy phenomena of condensed matter lattice models in 2+1 and 3+1D are explored. Many of our field theories are highly-interacting without free quadratic analogs. Some of our bosonic TQFTs can be regarded as the continuum field theory formulatio…
We show that any twisted Dijkgraaf-Witten representation of a mapping class group of an orientable, compact surface with boundary has finite image. This generalizes work of Etingof, Rowell and Witherspoon showing that the braid group images are finite. In particular, our result answers their question regarding finitene…
Summarizes quantum field theories with discrete symmetry, classifying representations and anomalies.
We construct a state-sum type invariant of smooth closed oriented -manifolds out of a -crossed braided spherical fusion category (-BSFC) for a finite group. The construction can be extended to obtain a -dimensional topological quantum field theory (TQFT). The invariant of -manifolds generalizes s…
Develops a new framework for anomaly description in quantum field theories.
We develop the theory of Chern-Simons bundle 2-gerbes and multiplicative bundle gerbes associated to any principal -bundle with connection and a class in $H^4(BG, \ZZ)$ for a compact semi-simple Lie group . The Chern-Simons bundle 2-gerbe realises differential geometrically the Cheeger-Simons invariant. We apply …
Let be a principal bundle and an invariant polynomial of degree r on the Lie algebra of the structure group. The theory of Chern-Simons differential characters is exploited to define an homology map , for , …
Defines a universal state sum construction for various TQFTs.
We formulate a family of spin Topological Quantum Filed Theories (spin-TQFTs) as fermionic generalization of bosonic Dijkgraaf-Witten TQFTs. They are obtained by gauging -equivariant invertible spin-TQFTs, or, in physics language, gauging the interacting fermionic Symmetry Protected Topological states (SPTs) with a …
We extend the construction of the Hennings TQFT for ribbon Hopf algebras to the case of ribbon quasi-Hopf algebras as defined by Drinfeld. Calculations proceed in a similar fashion to the ordinary Hopf algebra case, but also require the handling of the non-trivial coassociator in the triple tensor product of the algebr…
Motion groups of links in the three sphere are generalizations of the braid groups, which are motion groups of points in the disk . Representations of motion groups can be used to model statistics of extended objects such as closed strings in physics. Each -extended -topological q…
It has been conjectured that every -TQFT is a Chern-Simons-Witten (CSW) theory labelled by a pair , where is a compact Lie group, and a cohomology class. We study two TQFTs constructed from Jones' subfactor theory which are believed to be counterexamples to this conjecture: one is the…
