In this paper, we partially solve Yau' Conjecture of the first eigenvalue of an embedded compact minimal hypersurface of unit sphere Sn+1(1)\mathbb{S}^{n+1}(1), i.e., Corollary 1.2. In particular, Corollary 1.3 proves that the condition Ω1u2=(n+1)Ω1u2\int_{Ω_{1}}|\nabla u|^{2}=(n+1)\int_{Ω_{1}}u^{2} is naturally true and meaningful in …

Corrects mistakes in convergence rate claims for SGD learning rate scheme.

problem Incorrect convergence rate claims for SGD learning rate scheme.
method Revised the convergence rate claims based on corrected test criterion for a series.
result Valid convergence rate of SGD is O(1/t)\mathcal{O}(1/t), not O(1/t2)\mathcal{O}(1/t^2) as previously stated.

Corollary 2.3 in our paper "A geometric proof of the Karpelevich-Mostow theorem", Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 41 (2009), no. 4, 634-638, is false. Here we give a counterexample and show how to avoid the use of this corollary to give a simpler proof of Karpelevich-Mostow theorem. We also include a short discussion of the ori…

A strictly convex real projective orbifold is equipped with a natural Finsler metric called the Hilbert metric. In the case that the projective structure is hyperbolic, the Hilbert metric and the hyperbolic metric coincide. We prove that the marked Hilbert length spectrum determines the projective structure only up to …

DSAC improves cooperative MARL with general utilities, converging faster than existing methods.

problem Improving cooperation in multi-agent reinforcement learning with nonlinear utilities.
method Decentralized Shadow Reward Actor-Critic (DSAC) that estimates local occupancy measures and derivatives.
result DSAC converges to ε-stationarity in O(1/ε^2.5) steps with high probability, finding globally optimal policies.

New quasi-homomorphisms on surface groups vanish on handlebody groups.

problem Understanding quasi-homomorphisms on mapping class groups and their behavior on handlebody subgroups.
method Constructing infinitely many linearly independent quasi-homomorphisms that vanish on a handlebody subgroup.
result Disproved a conjecture about bounded width in Heegaard splittings and found infinitely many quasi-invariants on Heegaard splittings.

For any family of measurable sets in a probability space, we show that either (i) the family has infinite Vapnik-Chervonenkis (VC) dimension or (ii) for every epsilon > 0 there is a finite partition pi such the pi-boundary of each set has measure at most epsilon. Immediate corollaries include the fact that a family wit…

Determine lens spaces as closures of homology cobordisms over planar surfaces.

problem Identify conditions for lens spaces to be closures of homology cobordisms over planar surfaces.
method Use Chebotarev density theorem in the proof.
result Every lens space is represented as a closure of homology cobordism over a planar surface with three boundary components.

This note studies an issue relating to essential smoothness that can arise when the theory of large deviations is applied to a certain option pricing formula in the Heston model. The note identifies a gap, based on this issue, in the proof of Corollary 2.4 in \cite{FordeJacquier10} and describes how to circumvent it. T…

We give new obstructions to the module structures arising in Heegaard Floer homology. As a corollary, we characterize the possible modules arising as the Heegaard Floer homology of an integer homology sphere with one-dimensional reduced Floer homology. Up to absolute grading shifts, there are only two. We use this coro…

This note is purely expository. A subset N of the plane is affine ambient homogeneous if for each x,y in N there exists an affine transformation taking x to y and N to itself. The result of D. Repovs, E. V. Scepin and the author on such subsets is presented, together with discussion, corollaries and generalizations. At…

For a given multicusp f=c(θ0,...,θi)f=c_{(θ_0,..., θ_i)} (1i)(1\le i), we present a direct sum decomposition theorem of the source space of iωˉf{}_i\barωf, where iωˉf{}_i\barωf is a higher version of the reduced Kodaira-Spencer-Mather map ωˉf\barωf. As a corollary of our direct sum decomposition theorem, we show that for any $i\in \mathb…

In this paper, we show that any non-arithmetic hyperbolic 22-bridge link complement admits no hidden symmetries. As a corollary, we conclude that a hyperbolic 22-bridge link complement cannot irregularly cover a hyperbolic 33-manifold. By combining this corollary with the work of Boileau and Weidmann, we obtain a ch…

We refine a Le and Murakami uniqueness theorem for the Kontsevich Integral in order to specify the relationship between the two (possibly equal) main universal link invariants: the Kontsevich Integral and the perturbative expression of the Chern-Simons theory. As a corollary, we prove that the Altschuler and Freidel an…

In this paper we investigate the problem of non-analytic embeddings of Lorentzian manifolds in Ricci-flat semi-Riemannian spaces. In order to do this, we first review some relevant results in the area, and then motivate both the mathematical and physical interest in this problem. We show that any nn-dimensional compac…

In planar algebras, we show how to project certain simple "quadratic" tangles onto the linear space spanned by "linear" and "constant" tangles. We obtain some corollaries about the principal graphs and annular structure of subfactors.

We prove that there is an algorithm which determines whether or not a given 2-polyhedron can be embedded into some integral homology 3-sphere. This is a corollary of the following main result. Let MM be a compact connected orientable 3-manifold with boundary. Denote G=ZG=\Z, G=Z/pZG=\Z/p\Z or $G=\Q$. If H1(M;G)GkH_1(M;G)\cong G^k

We characterize which Legendrian 44-plat knots in the standard contact 33-space have exact orientable Lagrangian fillings. As a corollary, we show that the underlying smooth knot types of fillable Legendrian 44-plats are positive.

For a noncompact 3-manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature, we prove that either it is diffeomorphic to R3\mathbb{R}^3 or the universal cover splits. As a corollary, it confirms a conjecture of Milnor in dimension 3.

We consider aspherical manifolds with torsion-free virtually polycyclic fundamental groups, constructed by Baues. We prove that if those manifolds are cohomologically symplectic then they are symplectic. As a corollary we show that cohomologically symplectic solvmanifolds are symplectic.

We determine a wide class of knots, which includes unknotting number one knots, within which Khovanov homology detects the unknot. A corollary is that the Khovanov homology of many satellite knots, including the Whitehead double, detects the unknot.

We consider a knot homotopy as a cylinder in 4-space. An ordinary triple point pp of the cylinder is called {\em coherent} if all three branches intersect at pp pairwise with the same index.
