A weakly Einstein manifold is a generalization of a 4-dimensional Einstein manifold, which is defined as an application of a curvature identity derived from the generalized Gauss-Bonnet formula for a 4-dimensional compact oriented Riemannian manifold. In this paper, we shall give a characterization of a weakly Einstein…

We give a curvature identity derived from the generalized Gauss-Bonnet formula for 4-dimensional compact oriented Riemannian manifolds. We prove that the curvature identity holds on any 4-dimensional Riemannian manifold which is not necessarily compact. We also provide some applications of the identity.

The goal of this article is to study the pinching problem proposed by S.-T. Yau in 1990 replacing sectional curvature by one weaker condition on biorthogonal curvature. Moreover, we classify 4-dimensional compact oriented Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative biorthogonal curvature. In particular, we obtain a partial a…

We give an elementary proof of the fact that any 4-dimensional para-Hermitian manifold admits a unique para-Kaehler--Weyl structure. We then use analytic continuation to pass from the para-complex to the complex setting and thereby show any 4-dimensional pseudo-Hermitian manifold also admits a unique Kaehler--Weyl stru…

result Existence of generalized η-Ricci solitons on a 4-dimensional LP-Sasakian manifold.

A vector field on a Kähler manifold is called c-projective if its flow preserves the J-planar curves. We give a complete local classification of Kähler real 4-dimensional manifolds that admit an essential c-projective vector field. An important technical step is a local description of 4-dimensional c-projectively equiv…

Algorithms that decompose a manifold into simple pieces reveal the geometric and topological structure of the manifold, showing how complicated structures are constructed from simple building blocks. This note describes a way to algorithmically construct a trisection, which describes a 44-dimensional manifold as a uni…

result Describe 4D compact second-Chern-Einstein locally conformally symplectic manifolds and classify unimodular almost-abelian Lie algebras with second-Chern-Einstein metrics.

A standard fact about two incompressible surfaces in an irreducible 3-manifold is that one can move one of them by isotopy so that their intersection becomes π1π_1-injective. By extending it on the maps of some 3-dimensional Zn\mathbb{Z}_n-manifolds into 4-manifolds, we prove that any homotopy equivalence of 4-dimensio…

We study pseudo-Riemanniasn manifolds (M,g)(M,g) with transitive group of conformal transformation which is essential, i.e. does not preserves any metric conformal to gg. All such manifolds of Lorentz signature with non exact isotropy representation of the stability subalgebra are described. A construction of essential c…

A trisection of a smooth, closed, oriented 4-manifold is a decomposition into three 4-dimensional 1-handlebodies meeting pairwise in 3-dimensional 1-handlebodies, with triple intersection a closed surface. The fundamental groups of the surface, the 3-dimensional handlebodies, the 4-dimensional handlebodies, and the clo…

In [Cheeger-Tian 2005], Cheeger-Tian proved an εε-regularity theorem for 44-dimensional Einstein manifolds without volume assumption. They conjectured that similar results should hold for critical metrics with constant scalar curvature, shrinking Ricci solitons, Ricci flows in 44-dimensional manifolds and higher dim…

A study is made of 4-dimensional Lorentz manifolds which are projectively related, that is, whose Levi-Civita connections give rise to the same (unparameterised) geodesics. A brief review of some relevant recent work is provided and a list of new results connecting projective relatedness and the holonomy type of the Lo…
